Where is Kevin Mitchell??

Post by lurkyshaka »

Seems to have dropped off the radar a bit....has anyone got any information about his future plans? Is he injured at the moment?

Looks as if he's being frozen out since Nicky Cook has moved up to Super Feather, both in same gym with Nicky's father Paul training them both. When asked, Kevin said he wouldn't box Cook as they're in same stable and would take another route out of respect yet when Cook was asked he said 'I'd fight Kevin if the money was right' with his father/trainer ( & Kevins trainer )sitting back listerning to it :o , surely Kevin can't feel comfortable in this set up. Doubt Paul Cook has Mitchell's best interests as his trainer at heart over Nicky's. I think Mitchell needs to change trainers to one thats not willing for him to hang around, to move on and not get stale or we are going to see a good talent go to waste.

If Cook loses to Martinez, my thoughts would be that Mitchell would probably get a shot at the belt. He'll have to switch trainers because there is no way that Cook's dad will train Mitchell for a title fight for the belt his son just lost.

Didn't see him at Vinny's fight tonight.

He has been out after an operation on his hand or wrist. There was talk of him being on the Khan-Barrera bill

He was at Vinny's fight, maybe you just didn't recognize him as he would have plended in the crowd more having got fatter and not training, by him and his "trainer" Paul Cook over looking the fact that even with a bad hand he could still be out running and concentrating on his fitness. Thought a boxer had a trainer to push, advise and guide them. You watch, Kevins career will just fade out never getting as far as he could have.

So all in all not really good news then on the Mitchell front. I did wonder when Nicky Cook was being lined upto fight Arthur where that'd leave Mitchell as Alex Arthur was always a long time target for Kevin.

They need to keep the wheel turning with Mitchell's career or he will indeed stagnate. Maybe he ought to look for another trainer, Daddy Cook has done a decent job with Kevin upto yet, but the circumstances just aren't benefitial to Mitchell.

Sad to see him inactive, especially in a division with belts up for grabs, then again if hes just had a wrist operation, whats he supposed to do? IBF Champ Baloyi is surely for the taking, would stay away from Linares and Soto for now though

World title looks a taed too early given the flush shots he took from Johanesson in their British title fight & the problems he had in that fight in America.

Should every FW prospect get a shot at a WBO title - isn't thta a bit presumptious? What's wrong with defending the British for the time being?

That sounds good, and sensible. And possibly very exciting, a fight with Foster Jr.

Does Mitchell have any problems making 130?

You don't think he could ever beat the likes of Baloyi or Cook?

Mitchell is a bit of an enigma. Against Johanesson and Estrada he got hit a lot, and got hit easily. His offence is very good, but his defence leaves a lot to be desired. Foster jr is a good fight at this stage, but he is at serious risk of being out-boxed by someone decent. He simply takes too many shots and unless that's addressed and quickly then I won't get too excited.

Well if he's taking too many shots, and dishing out plenty, as with Johanesson, then that is very exciting.

I meant excited in his ability to succeed, not to entertain. I have enjoyed all his fights I have seen.
