Would Hatton be the best lb4lb boxer if he beats the Pacman

JMM is a Superfeather who has just moved up to lightweight.


If Hatton beats Pacman (he will because Pacman is not even a lightweight) then he beats Mosley and Cotto then he has an argument. not while he continues to fight a load of superfeather lightweights moving up.

I'd think Hatton would put himself right in the mix if he could pull off a win over Pacquaio, which is no small task. I think Pacquiao will be fighting somewhere close to where he would be most happy these days. I don't think he's going to see 130 again, so he's basically at least a lightweight these days, regardless of where he started. Its not like he's gone from fly to light welter in the space of two fights. I'm not saying Pacquaio might not be giving away a few pounds come fight night, but I don't think we're dealing with a David V Goliath fight either.

For pro fighters the weigh he is giving away is like a Feather fighting a lightweight - it makes a difference - ask Hatton - unless he wouweigh you by 10lbs he struggles. Hell - he outweoghed Collazo and Mayweather but only by 2lbs and 8lbs respectively and he was bullied and/or mashed down.

As a person I think Hatton is a good guy in many ways ( from what I have heard from people who know him) BUT - the fighter/media version I can not say he walks the walk as much as he talks it.

For me, the P4P#1 should be able to hold their own with the elite in the divisions nearest to their own natural fighting weight. Hatton's division is 140, if he fought a prime Mosley, Margarito or Cotto, even the ruggish Mayorga etc i think he would get pulvarised.
He got absolutely trounced by Mayweather, it was not the beating of a lifetime or anything near to it, but Hatton fought 10 rounds and never landed 1 single punch worth noting. His only other venture was against Collazo and he was taking a pasting in the final round and won the thinnest of decisions.

I think Hatton should be in at about the #5 spot if he beats the Pacman, Calzaghe should be out of the running soon enough also so that would seem about right IMO.

I feel that Hatton will never be P4P no1. He's been exposed, and because of the scale of the fight and the fact that he was KO'd it's likely that his bluff has been called my many boxing fans/pundits. Fighters who remain undefeated for so long never get that much respect after they loose. It's usually due to a percieved unfounded arrogance. As we all know, in hindsight, every fighter can be discredited after they have lost. This is what will happen to all of Hatton's future opponents(with the exeption of PBF, potentially) should he defeat them.

If Hatton beats Pac it will be:

''Pac-Man is overrated. He's been KO'd at Flyweight FFS''

''He stuggled to beat a washed up Barrera''

''It's not his natural weight''

The only way Hatton can ever be P4P no1 is if he gets a rematch with PBF and wins. Thats not a bad shout either if Hatton beats Pac and if Floyd is ring rusty and complacent. They are big if's however.

But what does it matter really.

In hindsight who will care. Unify the division at Light-Welter if your good enough, fight Witter, challenge Cotto at catchweight. The only thing that should matter is proving whos best at Lightwelter. It's a shame, but i don't think that will happen while theres so much money follow 1 fighter round. If Hatton wasn't so marketable we'd have to see the best fight each other in the division.

Mythical title's will meen nothing when people come to look at the carears of Hatton, Calzaghe, Pac, PBF, RJJ, Barrera, Hopkins. When compaired with any of these Hatton comes up a little short

just cos hatton was well beaten by a guy widely regarded as the best of this generation he has no claims on the p4p top spot.

there is a different p4p no1.

the world of boxing has moved on.

diego corrales was more thoroughly beaten than hatton was.

he was a respected p4p entrant after that cos of other wins he had.

Yeah he did fight at flyweight but he was a kid late-teens, early 20's and not forgetting he was a monster of a flyweight too and as he's got older and grown into a man I'd say he's comfortable at anywhere inbetween 135 - 150 on fight night, not far off what Hatton usually weighs on fight night, sure Hatton is slightly the bigger man but not by much.

he has been at that weight so long it surely must be his 'natural' weight

btw looking at early career photos of richard i would say at 22-24 he possibly could have got down to 135, but not any more no, i agree

IMO pac is only now coming to his 'natural' weight around 140lbs having drained badly beforehand. and he doesn't want to drain much lower in future now he has settled at weights he doesn't have to drain for
