Rees always seemed a little semi-retired even when he was active and WBA champion. Though always fit, he didn't look like the kind of guy who was in love with the sport.

Yeah he did, but probably due to the fact that M'Baye was crap on the night, and Rees was awesome. Kotelnik did give him a bit of a lesson, and I think he could lose in his next fight to the puncher Maidana. Puts things into a bit of perspective.

He was supposed to box on Calzaghe-Jones bill, but broke his nose sparring. I heard he was waiting out his contract with FW.

If he had kept his hands up more he would of got a decision against Kotelnik, he was out working hm at times and landing In volume and Kotelnik Is nothing special. It was close before he got stopped.

Ree's his wasting his time, he could get a euro at Lighweight.

If he could have kept his hands up when stepping back in the Kotelnik fight then maybe he could have gone the distance and taken the decision. However every time after he'd flurried to the body he stepped back with his hands down and Kotelnik took advantage.

I don't feel how well he did against his two world class opponents (and the fact he won a title) shows that Light Welter was a bad mistake but I can't help thinking his power will seem better at lightweight. Maybe a fight against Alex Arthur? Two former alphabet world champs neither of whom managed one defense. Both moving to a weight they should be better at at this stage of their careers.

Absolute rubbish - you must have been listening to Richie Woodhalls commentary which was borderline ridiculous. Rees was landing in volume to the body with punches that didnt hurt Kotelnik at all for the early part of the fight only. Kotelnik was finishing rounds with huge shots that had Rees all at sea.

Woodhall was giving these rounds to Rees despite him appearing not to know where he was when in the corner. At least Bunce only gave Rees a round or two which was all he deserved. Rees was not in the same league as Kotelnik which he openly admits

Kotelnik schooled, broke and destroyed Rees, who I liked. I had him shutting Rees out I think, and Buncey was furious with Woodhall. Kotelnik consistantly landed the clean flush shots while Rees just came forward landing on gloves

No way was Rees-Kotelnik close by any stretch of the imagination. Woodhall's commentary was ridiculous, giving rounds to Rees where he picked and prodded in range for 2 minutes before Kotelnik spent the entire last minute smashing his skull from pillar to post.

Woodhall: "You can't only work for one minute of the round John."
Rawling: "Even if you spend the minute landing huge shots on your opponents head, Richie?"

I had Rees Vs Kotelnik closer than a few of you guys, but I still had Andriy with a healthy lead, perhaps three or four points. I seem to remember Bunce's comments about anyone who had the fight anything other than a shut-out - disgrace was a tad too much.
