Thanks a lot Bennie, but I cant take your only copy.bennie wrote:Yeah, got a copy, mate. PM me your address and I'll send it off.
All I need is an fight report from it. Its from 22nd November 1984 in Southend.
The fight is Kenny Walsh V Graham Brett. Walsh won via DQ.
I have been talking to Graham's cousin today who recollects that the fight ended in controversial circumstances which led to Graham having his licence permanently revoked.
Graham had a vicious temper when he felt he had been crossed, so I wouldnt be surprised if he decked the ref or something.
If you can find the article are you able to scan and post it here?
Thanks again mate.
There's only a small report on the fight. It reads: "Referee Paddy Sower was quite right in disqualifying Pimlico lightweight Graham Brett (9st 7lbs) after 35 seconds of the sixth and final two-minute round of his fight with Bradford's Kenny Walsh (9st 6lbs).knockout artist wrote:Thanks a lot Bennie, but I cant take your only copy.bennie wrote:Yeah, got a copy, mate. Brett had been previously warned twice for holding and when Sower reprimanded him for a third time, the tall southpaw answered back and left the official no option."
Sower had a bad night, however. He awarded Norwich light-welter Gary Champion a six-round decision over Canvey's Andy O'Rawe on the same bill, prompting promoter allegedly (O'Rawe's manager) to say: "I thought it was a diabolical decision and I'm not the only ringsider who did."

Thanks, Bennie.
I have just learned that after the fight Graham complained about the DQ and and the ref told him something like "train properly, then you wont have to hold"
Brett KO'd the ref.
Surprised its not in the BN
Graham never got his licence back again.
He would make a great story. I was once sitting in the Spread Eagle PH on the Embankment in Pimlico on a Sunday afternoon about six years ago when two riot vans full of Police with Sheilds stormed the pub to arrest Graham because he was in a pub on his banned list.
Graham was just sitting there having a quiet drink watching golf on the TV.
It was quite hilarious.

There's no mention of the incident at all in the report - nor in Harry Mullan's Ringside Seat that week. But, as we know, Mullan was massively pro-Warren and probably buried it.knockout artist wrote:Thanks, Bennie.

Annoyingly, it doesn't say who the ringside reporter was.
