Golden Gloves Question: Joe Gumina boxing at 165lbs?

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Joe Gumina. I went sparring at a gym up near Placerville, CA last week and two trainers told me Joe Gumina was entering the Golden Gloves at 165lbs. ??? Any truth or confirmation? Joe Gumina previously won the Gloves at 178lbs. I have seen his youtube videos and even though the camera man(men) must have been drunk, it is not hard to see Joe has some power. I am very curious to his status with the upcoming Golden Gloves. I am on the fence about entering until I find what weight Joe Gumina will be boxing. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank You All.

Norcal, I don't know where you heard this,but Joe has no intention of fighting Amateur again.He is noticably down in weight.He is at a junction now that I'm sure most young athletes get to.He does have sponsors for equipment for training,However,as you all know it is tough for a young athlete financially. Usaboxing 123,I doubt Joe's ever been on this board.He is a quiet person who keeps to himself.As 415 will attest.After winning the Cal Pal title twice,Norcal GG twice,and fighting in 3 nationals your right it might have been easier "to make a name for himself" by posting here.But he'd rather box!! I know this as I'm his father and thought I should respond.

1,2,3-Nobody here is claiming to be a so called"Bad Ass"",as JimG said,Joe is at a point in his life where for him it makes sense to turn pro,he's tasted the National scene,has fought a good number of fights in about 3 years,and has done very well in a short period of time,and now he's about 24yrs old,what's there to prove,stick around to 2012?That makes no sense!I know Joe,and I agree %100 with him and his dad,and besides that Joe has above average power which will suit him more in the pro ranks than the amateurs,Joe's decision is a smart one,too bad we have amateurs that stick around till their old,for one reason or another

It does not matter what weight class Joe Gumina is in. I have seen him fight on several occasions now and he seems to have a problem with anyone who can box. If someone stands in front of him he has the power to KO people, If you stand there but if you box him the kid has no clue what to do. Dam shame to seems like a good kid but you need to be more than just a power puncher now days to make it in amateur or pro’s history has proven that.

Joe Gumina is a fighters fighter. I know that may sound strange to say about a boxer that hasn't even fought a Pro fight yet, but when you get to know him, and where he's come from....

....well, you just know. As he matures into the world of boxing you will see great things come from this pugalist. Sure, to be great, one must work hard, stay focus and not lose spirit. Joe has always been a more subdued individual who doesn't care to talk BS, but would rather perform .

I have boxers in my family, some of them were GREAT. One of them was GREAT in the eyes of many, one of them in my own - my Great Second Uncle, and my Father. Freddy Apostoli was a doer, another hard hitter who helped to create the legendary Teamsters Union in the San Francisco Bay Area, he held the Middleweight World Champion title from 1948-1950. My Father, who loved all who knew him and they all loved him, boxed in and had a few fights out of the service as a pro for a few years, but then decided to start a family and that ended his boxing career.

I followed boxing almost all my life. I boxed in the late 70's, and love the sport to this day. As long as Joe Gumina keeps up his training and works hard he will find greatness in a sport that he loves.

So I guess what you are saying, str8out61, is that there are not many amateur boxers out there who really don't know how to box considering all of Joe Gumina's Knock Outs and overall record??? Furthermore, is this really an attack on Joe Gumina, or is a major put down on all of the boxers that Gumina has fought and left on the mat. Now maybe a few here and there were not so grand, but can you honestly say they were all really that bad of boxers?? If so, then are you not also attacking the trainers and coaches of these fine athletes? Try not to waste your energy on who cannot do, the kid is doing it and that's what counts.

LMAO....I hope he does come in at 178lbs, there's a kid coming out of the Midwest that's breaking ribs at 178lbs, will go toe to toe and can box. This will be interesting.
