What are the plans for international events this year in 2009 for usa

USA boxing has a dual meet featuring three 2008 Olympians scheduled against Ireland (February 27 and March 2) I read from their January newsletter - The Write-Hook:

USA vs. Ireland is First International Dual After Beijing

The United States will kick off its international calendar at the USA vs. Ireland Dual, February
27-March 2, in Dublin, Ireland.

Eleven boxers will represent the United States in the international dual competition.

The athletes competing in the USA vs. Ireland dual are:

light flyweight Louie Byrd (Denver, Colo.)
flyweight Rau’shee Warren (Cincinnati, Ohio)
bantamweight Ernesto Garza (Saginaw, Mich.)
featherweight Raynell Williams (Cleveland, Ohio)
lightweight Traon Bynum (Washington, DC)
light welterweight Charles Watson (Johnson City, Tenn.)
welterweight Javontae Starks (Minneapolis, Minn.)
middleweight Aleem Whitfield (Geneva, N.Y.),
light heavyweight Sijuola Shabazz (Las Cruces, N.M.)
heavyweight Paul Koon (Philadelphia, Pa.)
super heavyweight Michael Hunter (Las Vegas, Nev.)

The boxers will face Ireland’s best in two dual events, competing at the National Boxing
Stadium on February 27 and the Arch Centre Athy on March 1.

Where did you hear Traon Bynum would be going at 132? I heard it would be Eric Fowler and if not him, Duran Caferro.

I just got off phone with him, this morning Eric Fowler was asked and accepted the spot at 132lbs.

It will be a great experience for him.
Last year he was scheduled to make pro debut on a boxing card that never materialized. Now he's refocused and wants to make a run for the 2012 team.

Funny, I recall two years ago (and posted on this forum) when he came out of nowhere with about 10 amateur bouts and beat defending National GG champion, J.T. Mendez in our Houston GG tournament. We were like "who is this kid"? And now he's a national champ himself.

BTW he's being trained by former pro Ron Collins.

Ok, I'll let Caferro know Fowler accepted. We were talking about how he came out of nowhere over the past year though. Be interesting to see how this year goes with those two and Shemuel at 132.

But i mean will they be doing any thing like any kind of major tournaments for like the juniors the youth or the seniors, i mean like any major plans for some international tournaments

USAB will be sending a team to the junior worlds in Armenia in May and the senior worlds in Milan, Italy at the end of August. As for other duals or competions, it has not been decided.

Does anyone know who will be boxing for Ireland in the dual? I know that Egan supposedly decide to stay amateur so he may box at 178. Did Paddy Barnes and the othe Irish Olympians turn pro or will they box in this dual against the USA?

I think it's supposed to be the Irish first team, so whatever of their Olympians stayed amateur. I thought Darren John Sutherland was staying amateur as well, but he might have gotten a contract from allegedly, can't quite remember.

AIBA does not have a youth world championship every year. The last one was in October in Mexico and USA sent a team. The JO nationals are in June in Denver.

The Irish championships are this month. Paddy Barnes, both John Joe's, Joyce and Nevin, and Egan are entered. Sutherland is not entered, so my guess is that he is turning pro. They will name who is boxing against the US after their finals. They might enter two teams since there will be two duals.

Having two teams for the duals isn't a bad idea. That way if someone gets injured it doesn't matter as much. They aren't going to box the 2nd day anyway.

im not looking for nothing really.just trying to see what there doing this year.thats good that they got international tournaments for senior and junior though.hopefully they can try to set something up for the youth so we can get some more international experience for them this year though.the more international competion the better for everyone

AIBA is making things confusing. What they are now calling the youth championships is what we in the USA consider U-19 or juniors. AIBA still has a junior world championship and I am not sure if that will replace what they called the cadet world championships which was U-17 or what we called JO's.
Actually the reason I think they cahnged the juniors to youth is because the IOC is going to have a Youth Olympic Games for U-19's in 2010. So I think the cadets will now be called the juniors but I am not sure on that.

It is always fun when they change names on us. Maybe they can call the 17-34 the Masters and the 35+ the Seniors. It seems more fitting. We all know that once you hit 35 in boxing, you are pretty much a senior citizen.

yeah i was confused but got it down now lol. i hear there was tourney up in canada that a few of our usa guys went to. like the st.catharines cup.does anyone have any information on this
