Matthew Hatton

Post by stujones »

A performance that seems to have been forgotton of late was Matthews' excellent win over a faded Ben Tackie. Many guy here tipped Tackie to wn, I thought it would be a potential springboard for Matthew - but things have gone quiet.

No doubt he'll be appearing on Ricky vs Pacquiao, but should he now making more headlines himself. Why is he out of the domestic title picture - always mentioned by Sky, but just "feels" like he's always going to be an unlikely challenger (not saying it is Brooks or anyones fault) - its just his name is not really mentioned by Frank.

Just wondering what people think his next move should be after his "name" victory - should he stick to America and challenge the fring contenders (e.g. Alfonso Gomez) or should he come back and go for Brook, Jennings et al?

I think he is a good bit better than Elwell and possibly Barrie Jones.

how hard does it have to be to actually get your crack?? Let's face it his record isn't bad, wouldn't exactly cause an uproar if he got put forward.
Does he actually want it????? I've heard he wanted this guy wanted that guy wanted Ali Nuumbembe's Commonwealth, wanted Anderson's British....now I've heard somewhere this week that he reportedly wants Kell Brook.
Anderson actually told Boxing Monthly a year ago.....possibly to Ian Mcneilly if I recall rightly, apols if I'm wrong...that he thinks Matthew Hatton just likes calling people's names out. Being associated with a bracket of fighters without actually getting in the ring with them in other words. I'm not sure I'd disagree tbh.

Yes, with his profile, connections and half decent record, he should be able to get plenty of top drawer matches. Perhaps he needs to give some ultimatums. Or maybe he's content to chug along on his brother's bi-annual undercards?

He's got a nice little gig going with his trips to Vegas and US TV exposure. He has a nice - if somewhat hollow - record. Nobody can criticise him for not being as good as his brother, and I sure wouldn't turn down the work he is offered, but let's be honest, he's not major title class. Craig Watson proved this.

Stu,
Why would Frank - presumably you mean Wazza - mention his name ?

He should do excatly what he's doing now getting decent paydays, which are probably more too do with his brother than anything else , whilst at the same time , putting his name around the mix claiming to want to swim with the big fish but getting in with the tiddlers, why not he ain't never gonna be worth the mega bucks his brother gets, and he ain't never gonna win the same belts.. Nope he should carry on has he is and hopefully earn more money than most other guys at the lower levels

Has he still not faced Adnan Amar yet?

What's going on between them two?

Amar was supposed to fight Craig Watson for the Commonwealth belt in December but pulled out with an injury/illness.

Just a shame that Bobby Pacquiao isn't a bit heavier. That would be a surreal undercard fight.

Hatton vs Brook would be an intriguing fight. I think Kell would win well, but I think Hatton is better than Jones and Elwell. Of course Frank owes Hatton no favours, and the liklihood of them working together is slim (more likely none), but it hasn't stopped Frank mention unlikely opponents for his fighters in the past.

I know as the challenger, it should be Matthew's team calling out Kell, Kell is the champ - but it would be his highest profile win.

Maybe it should be the BBBoC to mention his name (e.g. as mandatory). The Tackie win was good, even if he was in decline - not many of the British Welters hold such a good win.

I don't think Matty Hatton wants to go onto bigger and better things and if he did he wouldn't have the ability. Tackie is a good win for an up coming prospect but in a 40 fight career where you can fight anyone because of big bro hook ups its another calculated side show manouver. It is a win after all over 35yo ex LW fringe contender coming off 4 straight losses against other fringe guys at 140lbs.

I suppose another consideration is that Ricky wont want his bro getting KTFO before coming out to fight

How can the IBO stage eliminators since it proudly doesn't enforce mandatories?
