Tyson fury's height on boxrec
Tyson fury's height on boxrec
Just wanted to know why his height was changed from 6 foot 8 and half inches to 6 foot 7 inches on boxrec. This happend after his latest fight with zeller, before his last fight his height was listed on boxrec as 6 foot 8 and half . and btw everyone was saying that tyson fury is 6 foot 9 in ITV broadcast? so whats the reason behind this change?
Re: Tyson fury's height on boxrec
Height's a funny thing I have noticed about boxers. It seems fairly obvious- Fury probably isn't 6'9" it's just a way of marketing him and getting him noticed. Who else, other than Valuev, is that big? That's bigger than both Klitschkos, so he'll get noticed full stop. Tyson's his middle name too that's just another way of getting him noticed, and it's working.
The first I heard of him was when he was an amatuer last year and he was 6'7" back then. I remember it because I knew the Furys were a Gypsy family and that his old man, Gypsy Johnny Fury, was a mediocre pro but supposedly a good bare knuckle man, and his uncle was Bartley Gorman who was, according to his own autobiography, 'king of the gypsies' in the bareknuckle world (there is a good short film about Bartley directed by Shane Meadows of 'This is England' fame that you can find on youtube) and I was amazed that he was such a big dude, with THAT name, from that stock.
In Boxing monthly this month Tyson and his old man are pictured standing next to each other. John Fury is 6'4", so if Tyson's 6'9" then that's a 5" difference. But to be honest, it doesn't look that much to me.
When I saw the height difference between Haye and Wlad when they were facing off in the press photos a few months ago I remember thinking: "if that's 3.5" inches then the average bloke is walking around with a dick down to his knees..." The difference in size between the Furys is nowhere near.
Loads of boxers exaggerate height I think. From those press photos I talked about above, I reckon Haye is smaller than his listed height. Sometimes Valuev's 7', then he's 7'2". Wlad get's listed between 6'6 and 6'7, same with Vitali who gets listed 6'7 and 6'8. Hatton gets listed as 5'6", then suddenly he's 5'7", then he's 5'7.5". When he ringwalked with the Oasis boys they dwarfed him, and Noel Gallagher would have to be wearing cuban heels to make 5'9", so Hatton's probably 5'5". It just seems to be a thing boxers do, but with Tyson Fury it's all about getting noticed.
Personally I'm looking foward to seeing what he does with Mcdermott. John's s***, but so is the whole domestic scene. If he bashes Fury then we've lost the most interesting player, bar Haye who is beyond all of that anyways.
