- Surprised nobody's mentioned the ELEPHANT in the room.

Tyson/Evan Field, scheduled for Nov of 91 as I recall until The Donald King set up freshly divorced Tyson at the Miss Black America beauty pagent.

In relation to a Tyson v Holyfield fight in 91.

First of all Douglas beat Tyson in early 1990 as we all know.
As I remember it the Holyfield fight was off of the radar for quite some time after that.
Tillman and Stewart were comeback gigs for Tyson like many other fighters have had after a massive defeat.

I had a feeling that the Tyson v Ruddock fight was meant to go the same way as the previous two comeback fights for Tyson, maybe not in 1 round but 2 or 3 perhaps.
But Ruddock stood up and made a fight out of it and was stopped too early.
They made the Ruddock rematch which everyone was asking for at the time, then bang ... Mike went to prison.

Holyfield was good back then and Ruddock was a big hitter albeit suspect in the boxing department and sketchy in terms of desire, but the Razor could hit.
Why avoid Holyfield and take on someone like Ruddock ...twice.
I think they tested the waters with Tyson on his first 3 comeback fights and got scared after Ruddock 1.
Yeah Tyson won the Ruddock rematch easy, but Mike had turned into a strict puncher rather than a break you down type if he couldn't pop you out early kind of guy.
Tyson as weird as it sounds could be patient previously, post Douglas he became wild most of the time, effective still wild none the less.

I don't remember hearing a strong shout for a Tyson v Holyfield bout between mid 1990 and mid 1991.
It may have been spoken about like many other fights were.
But the time Tyson v Holyfield was hot, was just before Douglas v Tyson.

The topic is 90's Heavyweight Fights That Never Happened. Holyfield-Tyson happened. Twice. There is nothing in the thread title which pertains to certain timespans.

- What?

To this day the Douglas fight is controversial because of the long count and hitting on the break tactics of Douglas of the prozac zombie impersonator Tyson. Tyson was still top dog, not Foreman, not Cooper, not Holmes. Surely you jest with the best.

King is asked after the first Ruddock fight about Mr. Evan Holyfield and starts screaming that he don't need him, obviously keeping Tyson from fighting for a title. King scuttled the Douglas rematch and scuttled the 91 bout.

What is your point ?

Was a Tyson v Holyfield bout a big push post Douglas ?

No it wasn't.
Not in the short term it wasn't.

No one gave a care about that fight.
Later maybe but nowhere prior to Mike going to jail.
Not as a serious idea anyways.

The Douglas fight is only controversial among Tyson fetishist clowns such as yourself. Douglas whipped a 23 year old prime of his life Tyson like he stole something. The fight besides the KD was the most one-sided 'big upset' in boxing history.

Hitting on the break? I guess you missed the number of times throughout his career Tyson would throw elbows in the clinch.

- My dearest friend, gonna have to improve on the gummed up mush you throw out as insults and analysis.

Subject matter is 90's Heavyweight Fights That Never Happened, and this was the biggest one that didn't happen.

Has nothing to do with the whole of Tyson's career which obviously takes a nose dive at this point in time. Tyson was originally one of the cleaner fighters in history. You've confused the clubfighter non professionally trained version of Tyson who was not just a dirty fighter, but a fighter way out of control of his career and life resulting in multiple legal charges, fines, imprisonments, couple NDs and suspensions from various boxing jurisdictions that necessitated the Memphis venue in the sticks to make the Lewis fight. None of which has any thing to do with 90-91 Tyson/Mr. Evan Holy Field fight being canceled twice.

Tyson was still the biggest, most lucrative name in sports and boxing, yet he wasn't fighting for titles anymore. Certainly no need to fight the Ruddock rematch any more than Mr. Evan Holy Field needed Foreman, Cooper, Holmes to prove he was championship material. Those were considered joke fights in the day and only in hindsight does he get any credit for Foreman.

You and your ilk still haven't gotten over the Douglas fight being a predictable fluke. The only heavies it never happened to was Marciano and Tunney.

Time to move to chunky my friend. The ELEPHANT in the room can no longer be ignored as I have mentioned the first and biggest of the 90s heavyweight fights that never happened that were canceled twice. All the moaning about Tyson's elbows and tossing your mush can't change that reality.

Bowe vs anyone who wasn't Holyfield.

Tyson-Foreman would have been great. People assumed at the time that Tyson would win easily, but this is perhaps viewed differently now. If Foreman could have soaked up Tyson's early onslaught (and I suspect he would), it would have been very interesting.

Holyfield-Ruddock and Holyfield-Bruno would have been good. Holyfield would habve won both, but they'd have been fund while they lasted. Bruno-Alex Stewart, come to think of it, would have been top entertainment.

Foreman-Mercer would not have been for the faint-hearted. Two immovable objects.

And of course Foreman-Holmes would have been interesting even at that late stage.
