Upto the 1930's it was common to see alongside any boxing/baseball report some form of drawing - as opposed to photograph - of the event. Some of these were very good and not to be confused or compared with the cartoon style.
the only thing compable in present times is the political satirist. The reason for the decline may well be that they became an outdated medium or advances in printing .
i have managed to collect a good number of these when seaching through the old newspapers and was curious if anybody else was also interested in this lost form of sports reporting.

I am fairly young and only got to catch the smallest amount of information on this form of medium. As I have also only done a small amount of research on the subject. I do enjoy the new japenese animated form of art work. But it does not retain the same feel as old art. I think photographs being easier to produce will be the only way we will be seeing are fighters for a long stretch, the old style going on the proverbial burner. I also like to draw, I draw in the new more cartoon-esqe way becuase it's easier to perform movements with said charcheter, becuase, there is a lack of realistic detail. Which is why I think this is used in cartoons, as much as it is. I think I am rambling and will stop now.

I'm an artist myself, (painting and graphics). I'm planning a project with boxers in stanze, but in a very unsual form, ("portraits").
Would appreciate very much if you put me on the mailing list.
