Not even mentioned on SSN.

I e-mailed Sky asking the questions about their lack of coverage towards world champions in JC and Carl Froch, and potential World Champions in David Haye, they didn't reply.

I remember SSN giving a lot of coverage to Tyson's retirement, when the fight that prompted it (McBride) had been on Setanta the previous night.

I don't see any reason why Sky should ignore Calzaghe's retirement announcement. I can see the point about "competition", but if he's not going to fight again, they're not promoting another channel, are they?

I fail to see your point, do ITV have a weekly premiership round up? do the BBC have a 30 min slot discussing the Champions League? Why should Sky run a major story on someone they don't broadcast.

Sky sports ran the story on the ticker bar on the bottom of the screen, they also have an article on their website, seems quite suffice.

Maybe ITV should start running adverts for Eastenders

I'm sure I was watching Sky Sports News when they talked about Calzaghe's retirement for quite a while and asked viewers to let them know if he was one of the greatest of all time, using that trendy pound for pound phase and generally being very nice about him.

What more do you want? For a non football story it got as much coverage on SSN as most other big news.

Joe Calzaghe retiring is not as noteworthy as Ken getting hot under the cravat about Stephanie Beacham.

He's a great fighter with an average c.v.

I'll miss him but I still miss Benn, Lewis and Hamed more.

Well as JC was techincally I guess not a Setanta fighter as of the news - then I guess Sky should have mentioned it.

Sky Sports News coverage of boxing can be odd... they really did mention Holyfield vs Valuev alot - but then Peter vs Klitchsko didn't exist.

It was on SSN. It was still running on the ticker throughout the night. What did people expect? A mock funeral and a river of tears? Joe Calzaghe retiring is not as newsworthy as, say, Lewis or Tyson retiring.

Is it more news worthy than the Swansea City manager being made Championship manager of the month, which got a five min segment?

It's meant to be a 24-hour sports news channel, but it has an agenda to push its own sports. BBC ran it in the headlines of the 6 o'clock news, but Sky Sports News, which claims to be a sports news channel, passes over it completely. What a disgrace.

Plus the fact that it was on the cards - it was hardly a major news story. A bit like Marco Antonio Barrera's 2007 retirement. It was more like a confermation more than anything else.

With Lewis - there was geniune talk of Klitchsko rematch. With Mike Tyson there was no hint of retirment before the McBride fight.

I was glad to see that Calzaghe's retirement was one of the top news stories on BBC World Service Radio - not just left for the sport insert.

I doubt very much that SKY made millions off of Joe. Doubt it very much indeed!
