Best Lightheavyweight Ever
Tough choices here. An argument probably can be made for any them. I'm going with Michael Spinks mostly because of his success over very tough competition. Remember this is fighters of the past, don't talk to me about Roy Jones.
Ezzard Charles...not only the greatest light heavyweight but one of the handful of greatest pound for pound fighters of all time. Plus, when Ezzard was a light heavy, he was competing with so many greats in that weight class..probably its best era. Moore,Bivins,Marshall, middleweight Charley Burley, who often fought guys this heavy and heavier. The guys right below the top were good too; Maxim and Oakland Billy Smith come to mind. This has always been an under rated division. Billy Conn was a standout. Taking nothing away from Spinks, but both Tunney and Charles would have been light heavy champions who went on to win the heavyweight title if they had been given a shot at the lighter one. Too bad there's virtually no film available of Charles at 171, though i have seen a bootleg of his rematch with his conquerer Lloyd Marshall. Ezz got off the floor to score stunning one punch knockout.

Re: Best Lightheavyweight Ever
There is no doubt that the great Ezzard Charles is #1 at 175lbs...Incredible and complete fighter that had it all. "The Cincinnati Cobra" was beautiful to watch on film. He whupped the great Archie Moore 3 times, the last fight with no doubts by KO. Whupped also Jimmy Bivins 4 times, Lloyd Marshall, Joey Maxim, and Charley Burley twice, even though Charley was not a light-heavy at the time, still great victories.
If he would have won the middleweight and light heavy crowns, would have been a triple crown champion and would have make a great case as the greatest fighter pound per pound ever.
What a fighter!!! A top 15 all-time great for me.

Spinks of course.
Only knock I have against Spinks was in his Tyson fight he was scared to death.

Charles cannot be denied, IMO, by either talent or competition.
Moore is my runner-up, & Tunney stands out in third place for me. Of these three, Tunney is the most under-rated. No one appreciates what a simply spectacular fighter he was.

tunney is sorely under done but ezzard is top ten all time across all divisions every day of the week IMHO
Re: Best Lightheavyweight Ever
Charles is the greatest light heavy his resume at the weight is amazing.
Re: Best Lightheavyweight Ever
Charles....Spinks a very close second however.

Ezzard Charles
Archie Moore
Lloyd Marshall, and in a period of greats many more indeed - John Henry Lewis, Jock McAvoy and so on.
