He has zero chance. He will get KO'd if this comes off. There is no comparison between Martinez and Prescott other than their signature wins coming within a round. I predicted Martinez would lose to Munroe, he just didn't look that good, Prescott on the other hand, looks like an absolute monster for anyone other than a defensive spoiler with a granite chin.
The Hamidi fight means nothing. It was a spoiling match, nothing else. At a time when Murray was severely off the boil. He didn't know who he was fighting til the morning of the fight and by that point the novelty had worn off having short notice opponents (though Murray had trained for Fewkes).

Look at the McAllister fight. Lee wanted to win, he threw punches, tried to win the rounds. As such, there were opportunities to land shots. It was a fight. The Scotsman was fairly big at lightweight, very fast, mobile. And Murray ground him down, did the job, got the result. Murray had something to fight for, was up for it, and delivered v a difficult foe. And can improve from this.

Surely if you and others are going to judge him just by one below par performance, surely you should consider the McAllister fight. At the time of the Hamidi fight, critics were saying Murray would have lost to Fewkes badly. Now surely in lieu of Fewkes' form, and Murray's form - TKOs of Meager and McAllister - it looks as though Murray would have beaten the Yorkshireman up..."Murray can't beat a mover" has been the charge, when he obviously can now.

As to Prescott. All we know if he has some power. Can he KO Murray? Who knows. Can Prescott be good for 12 rds, does he have the workrate, the endurance, can he take body shots from a very strong lightweight who knows how to deliver shots that bust ppl up and break them down. Most ppl have seen but one round of Prescott. What does 1 round tell anyone? Joe Mesi was the future of heavyweight based on one round.
Dont think much of Murray, Fewkes, Mitchell or McAllister to be honest.

To be even more blunt, I don't think any of those names would cope with the best at or around their weight.

As for Prescott lasting the 12, I dont think Murray would be in any shape to come on down the stretch even if he could stave off a KO.

He gets hit, and that's all she wrote, if he were a slippery customer I might be less down on his chances.

Don't get me wrong, I like Murray, he's a very good fighter but I'm pretty convinced that he's not going to live with Prescott's power. I also think he's the slower fighter. I hope he proves me wrong, perhaps Prescott's chinny in the right company. I just cant see it.

So basically you are able to judge Prescott from 60 seconds of action against a man who showed him no respect, no guard, and no chin.

Can Bredis do that for a full round, can he do it for 12 rounds? If so he may well go onto be the best fighter of all time, on the other hand it may be that flattening Khan flattered Bredis. Looking at his build and style I imagine there will be times when he looks less fluid, and quite ragged; similar to Hearns, Breland and Forrest, who can all look great when given the angles/openings, but who all struggled with pressure.

Unless Bredis is the second coming it is nonsensical to write Murray off, plus if you base writing Murray off on one fight bear in mind that many wrote Bredis off after seeing him look quite poor in one bout, then he wipes out Khan and is an unstoppable monster.

Amir was little more than a swinging heavy bag, his every move was looking to open up offensively on Prescott, in the process giving Bredis a ridiculously open target.
You could well be right, stranger shit happens all the time in this sport. Can't see it though, as much as I try to picture Prescott as being overrated and Murray capable of blunting him... I just can't.

I think Murray's steady pressure is way underrated. IMO he will go from strength to strength - he's passed the 2 tests, the pressure of Meager, the slick awkwardness of McAllister, and I rekcon he'll keep passing the tests. He looked close to world class in that Meager fight. I think he would have done McAllister quicker if the BBBofC had requested the fight a lot sooner - with Murray busy. If he gets busier there'll be no stopping him (IMO).

That up/down, head/body attack and the steady rhythm that builds up impresses me a lot. It's a kind of seamless style, where he does subtle things and gradually but surely gets on top, when we see him at his best. A lot more than some of these fast guys that dive in, wang away, and leave themselves wide open to flush bombs or gas after shoeshining and leave themselves open. Ironically it's the fast fighters like Khan and Mitchell who are either getting dropped, or taking massive punches.

Prescott a great opportunity. Obviously Murray's not faced a genuine puncher. This will be a serious test. Also it will be on a show partly promoted by the corrupt Ahmet Ohner, who has harrassed judges to seemingly change scorecards, run the bell early - himself - to prevent his fighter getting a beating. I wonder who the stateside promoter is (with Arena Box) - is it Warriors Boxing? I think Murray would be up against it from many angles, but of all the quality Brits at or near lightweight I'd say he is the fighter with the temperament for the job (calm, but intense), has had the experience fighting in US arenas with muted atmosphere.

I'd pick Murray to win, thouhg it may seem a bold or biased pick. Prescott is aggressive, throws telegraphed bombs, and if Murray can deflect the worst shots, use his strength inside it'd be very interesting to see how Prescott reacts.

It's impossible for me to make a pick on this, having seen a grand total of 54 seconds of Prescott, and that against a fighter known to be chinny. Murray looks a lot more sturdy, and whilst not as flashy or fluid as Khan on the offensive, he switches things up nicely to head and body, as Autobarn says. And Prescott has a lot of body to aim at. I'd need to see more of Prescott before making the call, but I really don't see it as an impossible task, as some do. Murray takes too many for comfort, true. But I remember the same being said about Hatton before he went in with a genuine, no questions asked puncher in Tszyu.

Obviously Murray is no Hatton. But Prescott is no Tszyu either. Cracking fight on paper, I hope it happens.

We don't know Prescotts level granted, but Meager and McAllister a no tests for someone supposed to be world class. They are tests for a domestic level fighter - and the pressure of Meager? Sure he is a pressure fighter, but he cannot punch.

Could you imagine what the US fight fans would have thought a year ago if Andre Berto fought Meager?

It depends on what you see of Murray, if you see Murray as a future world star - then these are not tests, just like Elwell and Barrie Jones are not tests for Kell Brook.

Nice fight. Lets hope it happens. The thing is Murray is forewarned by virtue of what happened to Amir.

I think its a 50/50 fight.

Lovely fight. York Hall anyone???

If that happens, a really interesting fight. If he can get through the first four rounds in good shape, I'd pick Murray, but his defence would have to be better than it was against McAllister.
Let's face it, style make fights. I would pick Khan over Murray, but that is not to say Khan is the better fighter, I just think Murray struggles with tall fighters who move. Anyone who stands in front of Murray, I think Murray would gun the down, whereas i think Khan would struggle against tall punchers, like Prescott or Watson, yet someone who comes at him will always have problems.

I see Murray as a guy who can win a WBA or WBC title - and also someone who could get big domestic oponents like Khan, Mitchell, Arthur in lucrative defining fights that will draw big crowds. That's my opinion.

Well, UK fighters often go the traditional route. I see what you are saying. Meager and McAllister I agree are good domestic title defences. Any more domestic defences will be a step back, because no one is going to trade with Murray, everyone will get on their bike and arguably be negative, spoil the spectacle. The key is to let this ready him for the next step.

I would see Thaxton as the bridge from Britain to Euro class. However, Murray ISN'T being given his quick defence on Thaxton undercard, i..e to keep Murray busy, to keep ppl talking about Murray-Thaxton, to get another notch toward keeping the Lonsdale belt. As such, I see the Prescott fight as an opportunity. It's great if our prospects are willing to take fights like these: it's honest, aggressive matchmaking & answers loads of questions. No trickery, no smoke and mirrors, just straight for the jugular. Like I say, if Murray was being lined up for Humberto Soto or Paulus Moses, my reaction would be strong against it as these are seasoned hard bastards & too early.

Prescott LOOKS LIKE a puncher who will lose steam as a fight goes on. Hope this happens as I don't see Murray getting the Thaxton fight unless mandatory and - say- a TKO of Scott Lawton (EBU #10) may have got Murray the mandatory shot.

They say John Murray is lined up to face Colombian puncher Breidis Prescott in the spring. Murray, the reigning British lightweight champion from Manchester, has his eye on gazumping big Lancashire rival Amir Khan, of course, while cracking the higher echelons of the world rankings, where Prescott is ranked after his 54-second destruction of Khan last September in Manchester. The unbeaten Prescott hurt Khan with every punch he threw in their brief, explosive ‘fight’, including a left jab.
Murray, a similarly unbeaten fighter, proved similarly aggressive, exciting and fearless with a five-round pounding of Salford’s faded Lee Meager to win the British title last July and when he retained it by stopping Aberdeen’s young and talented Lee McAllister in eight rounds last month. This showdown, if it materialises, looks like one of those naturals.

Murray vs Prescott

Do you think it will happen soon and who do you fancy to win it? Not seen much of Prescott but don't think he will be able to bowl Murray over like he did Khan. :box:

Sorry Hagler2002, clearly I don't spend as much time on here as you and didn't see that thread. The report I posted a link to firms up the rumour a bit though doesn't it.
