Mike Weaver v Big John Tate KO 15 - lost every round, untill the final moments of the 15th...

Archie Moore coming back from 4 knockdowns ( 3 in the first ) to retain his title against Yvonne Durelle.

Benn v Logan was pretty memorable, and Marquez launched a fantastic comeback vs Pac Man...

Danny Williams back from the brink with Potter was unforgetable too.

Haven't seen the fight, but Toney-Nunn. From what i understand Norris was comfortably ahead going into the 11th and Toney produced one of his big shots and put Nunn's' 'lights out'.

Billy Conn vs Joe Louis as well. Former middleweight Conn looked like he was going to pull off a huge upset, got cocky and got KOd, and saves Louis' blushes

Yes, remember it well! I was one of a tiny minority who thought it was a fair stoppage. Richard Steele repeatedly asked Taylor to respond and he didn't.

Then again, I was mad for Chavez at the time...took a photo from the fight and made it into a T shirt!

If this is a post about fighters who were so far ahead then managed to lose then id agree with Jake LaMotta-Laurent Dauthuille despite the fact that LaMotta was "playing possum" Duthille, so far ahead just couldnt finish him off, then managed to lose with 13 seconds left!

From the same era id also go for Walcott losing to Marciano

Its Weaver vs Tate for me.

Although its an amateur contest - I thought Audley's first round match in the Olympics is worth a mention - although that fight shouldn't have been stopped.

There was a famous middleweight one between Jake LaMotta and classy Frenchman Laurent Dauthuille. LaMotta, hopelessly behind on points, put in a tremendous last-round effort to stop his man.

John David Jackson - Jorge Castro is one of the finest examples. Castro looks like he had been attacked with a baseball bat and was on the verge of being stopped, when he threw a desperation punch which put Jackson over.

The most amazing turnaround ever, and Castro was knackered too.

Hearns vs Leonard 1, almost Hearns vs Leonard 2 aswell (I recommend people to watch the rematch, hindsight shows this fight to be alot closer than on first viewing - Hearns did very little between rounds 6-10 and round 5 could have been scored 10-8 Leonard).

Oh yeah, I've got highlights of that on tape aswell. Quite surprised that LaMotta struggled, must have taken him lightly.

That is one of the first fights I ever saw, I seem to remember it being on very very late at night, and begging my mum to let me stay up and watch it, then right at the end 'BOOM' and tate is out like a light. I ran into the kitchen to tell my mum what happened. Definetly the fight which first made me think boxing was incredible.

Yes it was an amazing sight: Big John won every round and was coasting in the final minute, then Weaver threw one last hail mary right hand, landed it, and Tate fell like a tree - stiff as a board.

I was in the States at the time, and the three main channels were carrying boxing on the same night, one after another from various parts of the country.
So I was switching channels and watching:
Ray Leonard v Davey Green
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad v Marvin Johnson
Larry Holmes v Jones
Then Tate v Weaver right at the end.

Two nights before it was Matt Saad v Conteh 2 - those were the days

Benn/Logan was one of my faves. A one punch turnaround.

Although it was a tragic ending, at the time Eubank/Watson was a total turnaround.

But, my favourite is McCallum/Curry - for five rounds he was hit like a stuck pig on the end of Curry's amzing jab. One supreme left hook later. Good night Vienna.
