Hoping the main event is a lot better than the recent Heavyweight title fights I've seen.
It can't be any worse than the featherweights on Boxe.de right now.

Missed the early stuff, is Chagaev defending his title? Very good of the WBA if he is, allowing the Germans to dig up an obscure Costa Rican and serve him up on a plate for Chaggers.

On Boxrec and Fight-News both say the title is on the line. It's a title split into two at the moment though.

They just showed his opponent on the pads and he looks bad. I am going to put some money on a stoppage win.

I'm sure theres an obvious answer to this that I'm not aware of...

But why the hell are there two WBA World Heavyweight Champions?

Why has there not yet been a matchup between Chagaev and Valuev for sole possession of the WBA belt?

Cause the WBA like to have 6 champions per divison.

Chagaev contracted every single disease known to man -- & a few that aren't -- so the WBArseholes gave Valuev back the belt. Well, half the belt... But somehow Ruslan can still defend his half.

Chagaev was the champion, but he had injury problems so was unable to face Valuev. The WBA decided to make Chagaev the "champion in recess" and promote Valuev to the champion. Now Chagaev is back, there are 2 titles. Provided he wins tonight, Chagaev will be fighting Valuev next and then we'll have one title.

Thanks for that asterix, its funny, the commentator just explained it pretty much spot on as well.

The only thing that gets me is that why didn't Valuev win an "interim" world title when Chagaev was out injured. Crazy.

But as you and the commentator said, the winner of this fight should unify with Valuev later in the year.

Drummond has clearly been watching Larry Holmes tapes...think that illusion is about to be shattered.

Money. An Interim title is worth less money than the full one.

He hurt Chagaev in the 3rd. Good shot, if he lands a few more of them Chagaev would be in trouble.

Maidana deserved the decision more, imo, but it wasn't a terrible decision. Kotelnik showed better ring generalship and greater accuracy. Kotelnik was bashed up by the end of it, though. Maidana landed with much greater power and had a much better work rate.

You'd think the referee would know the right procedure. Asking for the fight to go to scorecards then being told he needs to get the doctor's opinion on the cut.
