Arce v Darchinyan Picks

The fight was last Night, Arce getting stopped iat the end of the 11th by cuts..

Does anyone know how the fight was going until then??

It was pretty one sided, Darchinyan was landing huge shots throughout the fight, Arce did have some success in rounds 4 & 5 but apart from that he did very little.

Was a bit dissapointing really. Arce did have Vic visibly in trouble a couple of times, in the 3rd and 5th, but I don't know if he won more than 2 rounds. Darchinyan is a very good mover - has good powers of recovery, and is a vicious puncher.

yeah, i picked arce but vic looked like he was just keeping his powder dry when he wasnt forcing the fight on jorge. it was only gonna be vic from almost the off.
i think he'll be beaten again though. enjoyable fight all the same.

I hope Nonaire wins the WBO title and they can rematch for all the cookies.

Unless Nonaire puts on a few more pounds it will not happen. Word on the street says the Vic will be handing over his titles and moving up to Bantomweight.

He will be if he moves up to 118 for Agbeko and 122 for Vazquez. Can't see any super flyweight getting the better of him.

No. Narvaez is too small & fights like an ickler Mijares -- I saw what Vakhtang did to my boy Mijares, I don't really need to see him do it again with a dude who fights like a pale imitation. Besides, Narvaez -- Whitfield aside -- he's bottom-fed for years. Asloum apart, his run of title defences makes you cringe to look at.

Why is Darchinyan so desperate to fight at Bantam? Who's up there for him to fight? The Filipino fella who's been around forever (Penalosa?) is moving up to fight the Puerto Rican youngster at 8 stone 10 lbs, I think, & I can't see him going to Japan to face Hasegawa...

Arce did better than I thought he would, but Vic still controlled the fight with his speed and movement. He was as more boxer than brawler. It shouldn't have been stopped though, not at all. Arce's cuts weren't nearly as bad as some i've seen and although he was hurt at the end of round 11, he still had all his senses intact to go.

Update: Arce Rushed To Hospital
While he appeared to be in a stable condition in the ring immediately after his boxing match loss to Vic Darchinyan on Saturday night, Mexican super flyweight Jorge Arce was later rushed to hospital experiencing uneven blood pressure and difficulties in breathing.

29 year-old Arce was reportedly alert and responsive during the trip to a local Anaheim, California hospital.

It doesn't change how he looked at the end of round eleven in his corner. He was still completely there and the cuts weren't all that bad. I've seen guy's who looked a whole lot worse in fights and were allowed to carry on.

It doesn't matter what you've seen in the past. The stoppage was a good one. Arce should not have gone out for the 12th round.

I think Narvaez has a better workrate, better movement, better speed, than Mijares. What he doesn't have it better competition. As you say he's made some poor WBO defenses, but he's had so little wear and tear, and steps up so well vs good opponents, that I think he'd give Vic his hardest fight. Won't be surprised if Whitfield has a good future. Whitfield looks like a bantamweight to me, a big classy fighter but he ran into an on top Narvaez.

Montiel looks a good fight to make on the strength of Montiel v Castillo and Montiel's slugging match with that hard southpaw a fight or two earlier. However, I think Montiel would go into a shell and make it a poor spectacle. Also, he could really frustrate Darchinyan. I reckon Narvaez would be able to mix up the boxing and slugging better than Montiel, whereas Montiel - under pressure - often goes on a marathon run.

I think Vic wants to fight at bantam so he can be a 3 weight world champ, then go for the 4th weight title like Fenech did.
