Boxing is an individual sport, they don't represent their countries as professionals like in the amateurs.
I couldn't give a monkeys where a fighter comes from, if I like them then I support them, if I don't then I don't support them.
Easy
But you contribute to a forum called British boxing! One would think you would then want British boxing to succeed and wouldn't be so narrow-minded to think that this can be done without boxers with name recognition who can gain appeal outside a narrow boxing fan base.
Where would boxing be in this country now without Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye and Khan, yet half the people on here seem to want to see these guys get beaten, or just badmouth them.
Yet a guy like DeGale goes to the Olympics and wins gold in front of millions on BBC and that inspires hundreds and hundreds of kids to take up the sport, it means boxing is held up by the Government as a good thing, rather than listening to the BMA, who want it banned.
Boxing is healthier when it is done in front of thousands, rather then 20 mates from the pub. And this is where Warren doesn't get enough credit. Why does he succeed more than others? Some might feel he is bad for the sport, some are just jealous of his success. But no one can deny how hard he works.
DeGale has done his due by British boxing and I want him to succeed and I have a low opinion of anyone who slags him off before he has even stepped into a professional ring.
Thats the thing I mean how many olympic medalists, boxers even do you see in the NOTW bragging about how many women they've had??? Its unprofessional and gives out the wrong signal. If you ask me FW should get some of his boxers PR's because they have no idea what to say and how to act in the media.
