As for the remarks that have been made, look how many postings they have got already? Bare in mind they r only 3 fight novices, it can only be a good thing.

I think its very harsh to judge Fury on his 1st two fights and so what if hes been mouthy? Providing he backs it up ive no probs with that. When did boxers have to become Aristocrats? I miss a bit of controversy from the domestic game. Hes a traveller ffs.

Also comparing Fury to Enzo isnt an insult, there arent many heavys in the current climate with Enzos ability.
Yeah none!!!!!!

OK then let say 12 fight to break in to the pro world and then see if your man can fight also age comes into it, But no matter what anyone said on here there is a art to matching young fighter, look at kans KO. And yes before any one jumps on me i have made some bad matches for some fighters, there is also an art to bring them back as well.

Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury has called Frank Maloney’s bluff after the promoter challenged him to fight his prospect Larry Olubamiwo. The 6 foot 9 inch Fury has won his two professional contests to date with impressive stoppages against European opposition and faces Russian Daniel Peret next time out in Norwich on February 28th live on ITV4.

Fury has had to look outside Britain again after a series of British rivals rejected the fight including Olubamiwo and Prizefighter champ, Sam Sexton. Olubamiwo who calls himself the “War Machine” is unbeaten in his three pro fights but his victims had a less than impressive combined record of just 11 wins from their 93 pro fights. Despite Maloney’s talk though Olubamiwo clearly wasn’t ready to go to war with Fury.

Fury’s trainer and uncle, Hughie Fury explained, “We read a piece after Olubamiwo’s fight last month that Frank Maloney was going around shouting, ‘Bring on Tyson Fury’. I thought great, here’s a British fighter who’s not afraid to take on Tyson. So I rang Maloney up and told him that if his man wanted it he could have it for February 28th in Norwich.

“He started backing down straight away and said he was actually talking about 18 months down the line. What’s he on about? His man is already gone 30 so what’s the point in waiting another year and a half for the fight to happen. That’s the difference between Tyson and these other guys, when he says he wants a fight he wants it.

“Frank says he has the best heavyweight prospects in the UK, with guys like Olubamiwo, Scott Belshaw and Tom Dallas. Well if Olubamiwo isn’t ready why doesn’t he turn up with one of his other heavyweight prospects for Tyson’s fight in Birmingham on March 14th?

“Sam Sexton was the same, I believe he was moaning that he never gets to fight at home in Norwich so when Tyson offered him the chance to fight him at the Norfolk Showground’s there on February 28th all we heard back was excuses.

“We talk about fighting these guys because we want to fight them but you get other people talking about it just to get a headline for their man. We want a British title shot and beating any of these other British fighters is the quickest route to that. We’d rather fight anyone in Britain sooner than these East European’s but at the moment they’re the only guys who will step up to the plate and fight Tyson.

“People say we’re trying to rush him but some fighters have enough class that they can be pushed on quickly. Anyway it’s not like we’re calling out the Klitschko’s or anything. We’ve only mentioned the British heavyweights and let’s be honest it’s a dead division at the moment. He’s sparred some of the top heavyweights around and none of them have bothered him so we know what he’s capable of. That’s why we want a British title shot as soon as possible.

“Part of the problem is to get sparing in the amateurs we travelled around to spar with a lot of these guys. The sparring was enough to put them off. They all know they wouldn’t last in a fight with Tyson so they’re all running ‘down the line’.”

Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy revealed, “Tyson’s only had two fights but I believe the rest of the British heavyweight contenders are already running for cover. Peret should be a good yardstick for him because he’s already beaten Scott Belshaw and has never been stopped by any of the other British heavyweights he’s fought like John McDermott or Derek Chisora.”

Featuring on the exciting undercard: Danny McIntosh v Matthew Barney for the English Light Heavyweight Title (subject to Boards approval), also appearing Lee Purdy, Matthew Thirlwall, Earl Ling and making his pro debut ABA Senior Featherweight Champion 2008 & awarded the best boxer of the night Royston’s Bradley Evans.

Tickets for Fury - Peret which is part of the undercard of Jon Thaxton’s first European title defence at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich on the 28th February are available from the Ticketline box office on 0871 424 4444 or via http://www.ticketline.co.uk.
Boy this is real funny. Yes i did get a phone call but no talk of money just do you want a fight with Tyson Furys I said yes in about 18 mths when is worth a lot more money and there no one Larry is Retreating as this fight was never made and will be made when i think Larry is ready not when someone stick out something like this(that today will be chip paper) I do not do my making of fights in the press. Mick becareful you do not do the same to Tysons career as you did to Dave Walker( what did happen to the rest of the class of 2000), there is a art to devl. a fighters career and i am not sure you got it right yet, You should model yourself on the way Sportsnet work do it they have be doing for a long time and still doing it and are still going strong.
Did I imagine all that shite slinging between Dunne and Munroe or something?

I thought that was pretty similar to this...back and forth with press releases and school yard boasts...zzzzzzz.

I agree, there needs to be a happy medium. It's pointless having 2 good prospects squaring off after 2-3 fights each, but a long long line of soft touch fights is even more infuriating IMO. As you say there's definately an art to matchmaking, but it sometimes turns into a long succession of safety first matchmaking which is a real turn off for the fans.

I think SN have been guilty of being over cautious in their matchmaking in the past although he does seem to be improving, but I think if Hennessy sports are serious regarding the first post on this thread then they've gone too much the other way.

Regarding Khans KO, could it be argued that if he'd have been matched against a few more fighters who could bang on his way up through the ranks that he'd have gained the necessary experience and knowledge in the ring to have not run head first into Breidis Prescotts bombs?

Don't take the bait Frank - These pressers from Henessey are shit, and no one from Hennessey can ever take any time to answer questions, instead they prefer to spout this continued rubbish about fighters from rival camps.

Meaty Mick should re-address his press team in my opinion - Christ...even boxingchat comes out of the woodwork every now and again to answer some questions about Warrén.

At the moment i'm enjoying watching the guy, and don't think that, but some might do
I think its all a bit silly after only a couple of pro fights. Maybe he is destined for great things, hes a bloody big lad and he looks good in the ring but its way too soon to know exactly how good he is. He admits himself he needs to work hard on his fitness and stamina so talk of a 12 round British title fight is pure nonesense right now.

Hennessey may not have the success of SN but I know who puts on the better 'fights'!

SN charge the pubic to watch glorified sparring sessions or workouts for their 'STARS'!

I agree Warmachine Vs Tyson in 18 months makes more sense.

Maybe we should let Hennessy do his matchmaking and SN do his PR work :D

Always seems to be snide remarks from Hennessys' side against other fighters.

I still say DW has more ability - only his chin is not what it was.

I would also like to see DW retire.

Fury v The War Machine would be good for the fans but prob won't do either fighter any good so early in their career.
Hennessy certainly puts on better bills than FW but FW's fighters are ultimately more successful. Half the reason he matches his fighters tough is because he won't put his hands in his deep pockets to get them wins

We all read your responce Larry, as you had it posted here WELL before everyone else posted their BS "Press" posts.

Larry keep the head down and train/fight hard, you know the guys on BoxRec support you 100%, your a down to earth nice guy and genuine poster on here.

Honestly I think that most of the "Press" accounts come on here post their wee releases and fight promotions/tickets sales etc and then vanish. There are not many boxers or promoters that post and discuss the topics/threads they started, but you my friend are one of the few that do. Total respect to you and the others (James, Billy etc) that do take the time.

I'm interested to see who Fury deals with Peret as he has a tendance to make most look bad when in the ring. Outside of the ring he is a lovely guy and very helpful as a journeyman fighter; will tell you were you went wrong etc.

Letting your boxing do the talking is the best thing to do. Press releases with nothing to back it up are a waste of time.

However, why not fight someone like Fury. It would be a great learning fight for you both and if you win, then use it as a stepping stone to bigger fights down the line. If you lose, so what - its very early in your career and you can come back better for it. Juan Manuel Marquez and Bernard Hopkins lost their first fights, it hasn't held them back!

I understand promoters wanting to protect their fighters but why bother about being undefeated? Why not go against the best you can, within reason? You will learn more than beating up some under-matched out of shape tomato can.

I admire the aggressive matchmaking of Fury so early in his career. Time will tell if it is a good thing or not but it is sure as hell exciting and thats what I want to see as a fan.

Not trying to say i should have a job with any promotional firm but after my interview Larry looks(and is) a quality individual...Hennessy are trying to make Fury a national hate figure by the sounds of it....plus the cries of racism from John Fury in relation to Pricey getting the nod to go to the olympics made me sick!!

Just calm down, the country wants to get behind its prospects, they will turn away if they think they are gobshites....
