Whats the biggest drop in a fighters weight in history??

Post by The Scranton Assassin »

Chris Byrd went from about 212 to 175 and got pounded. What are some other huge drops in fighters weight through out the years? John L Sullivan went from 229 to 190 a few times. Chad Van Sickle deserves a mention here as well.

- 'Fraid you chaps ain't even close.

Jeffries lost at least 100lbs after 6 yrs absence to go against JJohnson, about 30% of his body weight.

Buster Douglas was well over 400lbs when he was carted off to the hospital in diabetic shock and almost died. His first fight back after a similar 6 yrs absence was at 244, a loss of at least 156 lbs, a junior middleweight, or 40% of his body weight.

Butterbean got his nickname via his diet, dropping 100 + lbs from his 400+ lb frame to make 280 or so for the Toughman Heavyweight limit. 5X heavy toughman champ before turning pro. Embarrassed Holmes and been willing to take on MMA fighters.

Message to the wise: Don't call him fatboy unless you have a clear exit with some speed to turn on!

Bean at 40 currently back to his 400+ weight of around 420 or so.

As far as fluctuating fighting weights go...

check out Nate Tubbs....Tony's brother.

Pro debut at 242lbs.
Fourth fight at 205lbs
then a career low of 185lbs...
and in a fight 12 days later......he is up to 245lbs...

How do you go from 185lbs from one fght to another fight
in less than two weeks at 245lbs !!! That takes effort.

I may be off on the numbers, but didn't Jane Couch start boxing in order to lose weight? If I rmember correctly, her doctor told her she needed to quit smoking and start exercising. This lead her to a boxing class and she shed like 100 pounds. She was in such good shape that she started boxing for real....

Wow, if that's true I'd love to see the "before" pics.

Broughton, look for Butterbean's unlicensed fight against Mark Potter on YouTube, from late last year. You'd be well within your rights to call him fatboy and you wouldn't have to run too fast! I think he's actually at serious risk fighting at that weight and age. He was just a punchbag vs Potter.

- All Bean has to do is drop and roll. The surrounding air drawn into the vacuum that his body occupied sucks the clueless victim in and of course they're flattened in the steamrolling action.

Bean is hampered by boxing and UFC rules. Of course if he comes into the ring hungry, the poor witless victim to become part of Bean's victuals that evening. Best way to win over Bean is come bearing a 5 gallon bucket of home fried chicken, and a gallon of grandma's blackberry cobbler and a gallon of homemade vanilla ice cream. Be scoring plenty of points there.
