I certainly think London would be a much worse place to live in if guns were more freely available.
Even if you needed to get a license for the, Micheal Ryan, the Hungerford nutter had gun licences.
Also the more guns that are about the easier it will be for them to get into the wrong hands.
Decent guns are still relatively difficult to get, the kid from Liverpool who got shot was done by an old WW1 pistol

young men often do stupid things. give them guns and they'll do stupid things with guns. ditto knives. nobody should be allowed to carry a weapon.

No, I am not.

Is there any need for the bad language?

If these men are stupid with their guns then they will likely be arrested or shot. The licence would be to be able to carry guns in a holster in public, not to mess about and shoot things etc.

well exactly. there may be an argument that this will reduce the number of stupid people in the gene pool, but clearly more guns = more death

Frankly, talk like this does little to engender respect, either in your sanity or your intellect.

I understand why you have to use the tactics you do; I realise that if you merely stated your crazy opinions upfront without all the wheedling then people would lose their rags earlier & not bother engaging with you -- I know this is the last time I for one shall bother.

Who do the authorities think they are helping with these lenient sentences?

You have to understand that they are under advice from the home office in respect of sentencing guidelines. There simply isn't the room to sling people in jail indefinetly, and nor should we encourage it.

We already have the highest prison population in Europe - and growing, do we really want to end up like the US where there is an underclass of people who live in jail most of their lives?

The worst thing this country ever did was sign up to ridiculous human rights laws.

Murderers and sex offenders CAN NOT be rehabilitated so what is the point in keeping them alive?

If we got rid of all the criminals who should never be released then that would open up a huge amount of space in prisons, take away all the luxuries(TV, computer games etc.), just have basic running water, no heating, no days out, oh and while were at it we should make them do labour then at least they'd be giving something back to the country.

If we made prison a frightening place to go then maybe people will think hard before commiting a crime.

Prison is still a frightening place to go for the average man, but unfortunately for our underbelly of society it is just an extension of home.
One of the reasons our prison population is growing is that we have much of Europe's criminals in our jail because of our open door immigration policy, which is the same all over Europe but they want to come here because of our handouts. I drove to Spain last week, and I didn't show my passport once, not in England, France or Spain.
And I still can't believe the ridiculous notion that carrying guns would make the country safer, unless you allow them all to shoot each other!

What a load of tripe.

Statistics do not support your statement. Evidence please?

Part of the problem is that prisoners are basically left sat in their cells a lot of the time, because prisons lack the resources to have them supervised in gainful employment.

Don't really want to end up like the US in that regard, but I'd rather see the scumbag ones in there than out. Be better off giving them an education before they end up there , I suppose.

The crimes with the highest rate of Recidivism are crimes against property, theft, burglary, robbery. Crimes of violence and sexual assault are actually much lower in terms of reoffending.

Why not? Perhaps it is not the best idea in the world, but in theory it makes sense. It is hardly an "insane" idea.

This is the last time that you will engage me and this is all you could come up with. Not very impressive.

Marc Kirk drove towards oncoming traffic on the motorway near Rochdale in Greater Manchester after having an argument with his girlfriend.

CCTV footage shows other vehicles slam on their brakes as Kirk, 20, does a U-turn and a handbrake turn in the middle of the carriageway.

He then speeds back to the hard-shoulder and carries out a second handbrake turn, leaving the car again facing on-coming traffic.

Manchester Crown Court heard that when a passing patrol car stopped Kirk, he repeatedly punched an officer in the face and the pair ended up rolling across the hard-shoulder.

Kirk was arrested and later admitted dangerous driving and assault.
Anything but prison is a disgrace, going on a rampage in a car is like going on a rampage with a gun and then he assaults a copper.
