This is a case of Witter wanting and NEEDING it to raise his non existent profile

and

Hatton/Warren not wanting it ( no upside. He wins, so what as far as the US TV is concerned. He loses and no more paydays for beating up on Munchkins in front of 15,000 ) and not needing it ( who in the US cares? They want a name not a Salsa dancer )

If it does happen, I would have gone with Hatton a year ago. I suspect Witter would take it now

Witter needs to beat a couple of the top boys before this fight will happen, as you correctly stated, Hatton has bigger fish to fry, however, as it stands the chippie remains closed and the oil is still in the tin.

Its a lot more than what any of Hattons other opponents have been paid.

Why should Witter get more.

He if was that confident of beating Hatton, he'd fight for £50,000.

He should get more because (a) It'll generate a shit load of money so why should Warren pocket the extra? (b) Witter is European champion (c) His record of 29-1-2 is excellent as have been his recent performances

I'd certainly like to see him get it.

Hatton does have bigger fish to fry, but hasnt been frying! Witter is a far better match for Hatton than anything since the Magee fight. Washed up old light welters, super feathers and lightweights all the way.

Hatton makes shit loads of money EVERY time he fights, for himself and for Sports Network, Witter doesn't bring any more to the table that Mitchell, Gatti, Vivian Harris, so where's the incentive? Pinto was on 50k, and so was Vince Phillips, and I believe Ben Tackie too.

Witter should just get on with finding some other opponents.

£50k is cr@p for a 'world' title fight. No wonder pinto didnt go through with it. I wonder how long the paying public will keep going to the fights if the big fights arent delivered.

I get the impression Warren wants to make a huge profit on all his shows....
he has made a shit load on Hatton so far, so he shouldnt mind a break-even fight with Witter....
He owes it to the British Public IMO

I get the impression that allegedly isn't inclicned to think he owes anyone anything.

i agree that 50k is pretty crap, and I cannot see Harris, Mitchell etc accepting this level of payment.

Apart from the boys like DLH, Jones, Hopkins and Tyson, there isnt much money in Boxing at all these days.

You would be surprised.

If Witter wants to make a name for himself and is so confident of beating Hatton, he should fight for 50k.

Didn't Yori Boy Campas only get $50,000 for fighting Oscar.

It doesn't surprise me actually at all, let's face it, with all the terrestrial networks cutting back on boxing across the globe, the margins getting smaller on the dedicated sports channels etc, there is less and less money in the pot. Only PPV shows can make the kind of money needed to pay two fighters big purses.

However, surely Hatton's shows are the exception, with 16k turning up each time plus SKy money, I fail to see how there isn't money in the pot to pay more than 50k. Or is there something I don't understand about the economics?

I am sure the Hatton v Witter fight would bring back a bit of spark to the British boxing scene which is sadly very flat at the moment.

P.s. How much is Williams getting for fighting Tyson?

well, obviously I am just waiting for Calzaghe/Pigswill II, but in the meantime Witter/Hatton will certainly help pass the time

250, 300, 400K, who knows. Without Hatton there is no fight.

Witter would have trouble selling out York Hall, wheras Hatton would sell out the MEN fighting John Inman.

Yep it's true, Hatton could fill the M.E.N for wrestling with a deck chair.

And as long as the promoter got options on the deckchair, which had to be imported from Rio Beach at 5 days notice :D
