I'd like to start training. Need help!

Post by uncle dekka »

I'd like to start training, and have no idea where to start!

I'm 25, live in London, and love boxing, and feel that it can only help my love of the sport to start training.

My problem is that I don't know where to start looking for a club. I read the thread about white collar boxing, and really don't want to get ripped off paying for shit training (although I'm not saying that they provide poor training, since I don't know anything about it) but it makes me wary.

I'd really appreciate it if I could get some good advice about where to start and what to do. Any help would be quality!

If you really like the sport then stay away and enjoy it,

If you get involved and see what really goes on it will ruin it for you.

I disagree, give it ago.
To sample just a little what a boxer has to do will make you appreciate it a lot more.
Some people with only a passing interest in the game have the opinion it is slam bang until only one is still standing.
Give it a go before your too old. You still have time.

if i were you id contact my nearest club, ask if i could use the place to work out a bit then take it from there. youll be amazed how friendly these places are and they would probably welocme you with open arms, theres not a club that doesnt need more money.

take advice from the guys in the club as to what you should/ shouldnt be doing

I'd try and get a good a fitness as you can before going, most amateur clubs will be lowering their gym hours as it is off season. I would try and get fit as possible and then make a start say in 6 weeks time. Being fit will get you the respect from your gym mates and coaches instantly.

If you are fit then just go - you only live once (well, that is debatable).

If you live in London, there's a place called GYM BOX in Holborn...My mate's a member...it's a bit pretentious and fancy...i.e. not as good as the real thing- amateur scene...but good as a starter!

I've walked past that Gym Box a few times, they seem to have a lot going off there. But I can't imagine it being anything less than a small fortune to join up.
