Is this fight really that boring ?
If you listen to the HBO commentators who talk about everything
other than the fight..who display the most un professional approach
to this fight....
I know i mentioned this in an earlier post....
but is this bout that boring ? the one guy trying to stay on ball
with commentary is Ray Leonard.
I dont think the fight was the best ever, but both guys were doing
their best....far from being a bore fest that the HBO voice men would
lead you to believe....
....does Lampley want to shag Don Johnson?

Re: McCall vs Douglas...
I've only heard the Bob Sheridan call, but sounds like Lampley & Merchant were being as unprofessional as they were on air during the Greg Page-Mark Wills fight the following year. Leonard ignores them as they joke, make stupid remarks and behave like they're downing beers in a bar.
I don't whether its because they were being anti any Don King fighters (King was cuasing Tyson problems with HBO during the time) or just because they had decided that Douglas (and Page) were just fat wastes of space, but whatever it was disrespectful of fighters.
The Douglas-McCall fight is a decent fight, Christ McCall is trying to decap Douglas every rd, and Douglas despiet being overweight boxes well. Good undercard bout -- and better than the main event that night!

Leonard was the only one holding the professionalism.
I had my GF watch a round...I do this with the UFC...
I play a round or two with commentators....in the UFC case
they dumb things down...in the HBO McCall-Douglas fight
they make it sound boring..... with and without commentary
give a different perspective to the casual fan.
Its sad really.

Speaking of UFC, aint that Bruce Buffer hopeless? You think his brother would help him practice so he doesn't sound like he's got Dana's tadger in his mouth.
Only one worse than him was that crazy Jap women screaming gibberish on those Pride shows.

Re: McCall vs Douglas...
Bruce Buffer tries ridiculously hard to add drama to his voice. Listen to him announce the result for Casamayor-Katsidis, last year, if you have it. It's laugh-out-loud funny, & God-awful at the same time
I'm not a fan of his ever-pickled brother & his trite, play-to-the-idiots-in-the-crowd, "catchphrase," either. I'm a Lennon, Jr. man

UFC has ever had...Bruce is atleast better than Rich G-Man Goins...;)
I just find the whole UFC commentary team so tardish. Bruce Beck was good
when they had him. Im not a fan of fear factor man...not one bit.
Re: McCall vs Douglas...
I think Bruce's best work is in managing his brothers career.

Re: McCall vs Douglas...
I quite like Michael Buffer.
He sounds like a decent bloke from the bits and pieces you hear of his life outside the ring life.
Not a big fan of Jimmy Lennon Jnr. The way he never blinks freaks me out. How old is he? He never seems to age yet he has been around for a good while now.
Best MMA commentator I thought was Bas Ruten (sp). He knew what was happening and could explain it well except he always called a straight right a right straight. They got rid of him for some reason about a year or so before Pride folded.

Agreed Bas was always good and entertaining.
Maurice Smith was a good commentator also in middle Pride events.
I think Lennon, jr is an El-Aurian....so he may be a good listener/
