Hatton WBA shot

Post by REAL_DEAL »

from hatton forum
was just told by an informed Las Vegas based source that the WBA is set to announce that Ricky Hatton is Vivian Harris' new mandatory challenger and that fight will most likley take place in Manchester in early October.

I'm told that Spadafora is out of the picture.

Frank says that if the WBA does make the announcement, he would like to make Hatton - Harris for October (whoever Ricky fights it's going t be either the 2nd or the 9th at the MEN) but that negotiations between he and Mike Acri, Spadfora's promoter, were still ongoing. He said that Acri hadn't been gettin back to him for about three day however.

So, I called up Mike Acri and he said that a deal for Hatton and Spadafora was about 80% done with just a few sticking points to be worked out. He said there were no problems and that he and Paul were looking forward to the fight.

I called Frank back and I think we have the ball rolling again for Ricky and Spaddy, but let's hope that the WBA comes through for us and makes the announcement.

Harris/Hatton is extremely doubtful - it's already known that Warren sent some of his lackeys to the U.S. to meet with Harris' promoter Kathy Duva about a potential Hatton/Harris fight in Manchester in the Fall, and according to Duva, the meeting was a sham - Warren's merry men wanted Harris (who is after all the champion) to fight Hatton in Hatton's backyard for riduculously low money (according to Duva they laughed at even a proposed 50/50 split) and - this is the best part - team Warren wanted options on Harris in case he won.

Plus, you don't seriously think Fwank is going to risk putting Wicky in with someone who can actually whack, do you? Why do you think they're so interested in Spaddy? That's right, because he's a lightweight, and because he can't even break an egg at that weight.

If Hatton is made the mandatory doesn't that make the fight open to purse bids?

Good point - and wouldn't that automatically mean a 75/25 split for Harris?

As far as I know, that's correct.

I smell an excuse from Hatton.

Harris - "But, I really want Hatton! I hear he wants to fight in October and it just so happens that I would like to fight in October too. So... he and I should get together! I'm giving Hatton a fair offer. He's not my mandatory, but I'm willing to fight him. I'm GIVING him a shot at MY TITLE and I'm willing to go to his country to defend it! He should thank God for my offer... and accept it!"

This fight should be made.

Oh, he'll probably claim that Wicky, as the "real" WBU champion, should be the one getting 75% of the purse.

They don't want Harris. They're running scared. Ricky would get cold-cocked.

C'mon thats bollocks, Harris has the WBA belt, surely Hatton should be busting to get him in the ring.

This fight sounds so easy to make it's untrue.

Even the likes of Lennox Lewis who was very inexperienced (in management/promoting terms) managed to force Holyfield into a corner and demonstrate who was pushing the fight and who was wimping out of it. The advantage Warren has is that Joe Public is basically ignorant to this shambles and doesn't know what is going on, he can serve up another pleb in October and still sell out the MEN.

BULLSHIT, he says Sky are not interested in a Witter fight. Surely they would jump at the chance. fornicate Showtime, they are not needed for this fight. I mean fornicate me, how much does Warren pull in from the gate alone? He's had a good few Ricky Hatton full houses as well. Why won't he put some of the cash he made from all those shows towards a Witter fight? Its silly, he's talking like Witters is Oscar and will demand millions to fight. He owes it to the fans who supported Ricky against the Vilches and Rios's of this world.

I don't believe FW for a second about the Harris fight. He goes to Germany for a tougher fight against a guy who's not even remotely as popular as Ricky yet FW won't put up the cash for a Hatton/Harris fight when Harris is very willing? fornicate sake, the champion is calling out the challenger!! The fight can be made if they really want it, which they don't. Urkal's promoters showed faith in their man to deliver the belt, why won't Frank show the same faith in Ricky to deliver against Harris where Urkal failed? Its a fair question is it not? A loss to a very good fighter would not be the end of the world.

Cotto is being backed by his promoter, Brodie was backed, Urkal was backed and Magee was backed. Thats just a few, why won't Frank back his man? fornicate that Spadafora fight, its meaningless. Theirs absolutely nothing to gain from it. So what if he KO's him in 30 seconds. He's a featherfisted lightweight. Where's the threat? Ricky wins and not and single question will have been answered about how good he is.
