Where's Boxingchat when you need him ?
Would like to see his response to Black Panther, if for no other reason to clarify who's ducking him, and why.

Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Lloyd is down to box in an 8-rounder on the Olympians bill. Maybe that is seen as good enough to put him up to Championship standard. Any idea who he is boxing?
If they want to keep the title "in house" why doesn't he box Minter?

Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
I actually had a conversation with Dean Powell about this subject (yes really - he's been reading this thread and rang me up!) the other day and he made it quite clear that his team would match Kell with any welterweight on the domestic scene. Dean defended the selection of Lloyd and feels that people are seriously underestimating him.
Lomax has been considered and may figure in the future (i personally think this would be a good match). Dean says that the board may make him mandatory.
I suggested Mutley (who i think would be perfect) but he is tied up.
They would consider any opponent for Kell but people don't want to know. It has been hard to find an opponent.
Dean thinks that Lloyd is a serious tough guy who will pose Kell real problems with his aggressive, sit-on-your-chest style and be a very good challenge. He also says that there will be a tremendous, hostile atmosphere in a hall packed with Lloyd fans and that will add to the learning curve for Kell.
It was interesting to talk to Dean who is very bullish indeed about the fact that they will not hold Kell back and they have major plans for him - hopefully taking him all the way.
On a personal note, I cannot be bothered to rehearse yet again (as twenty-six has so patiently done) the many and various examples of kids ducking / pulling out on Kell. The fact that Watson and O'Donnell have took emselves out the British title reckoning to fight for the Commonwealth says it all! Not long ago there was Doherty, Mutley, O'Donnell and Thompson all in board approved eliminators to fight for the title - WHERE HAVE THEY GONE???

With you all the way, Dan.
I find it sad that a young fighter with the wish to make the Lonsdale Belt his own can be slated.
I know he would fight anyone domestically at the weight.
Duckers and divers the lot of them.

Yes, it is interesting. Personally, I thought the BBBoC was wrong to sanction an eliminator for the title (when Junior was champion) and then, essentially, tell the winner (Alan Bosworth) sorry - your not good enough to fight Junior. Why sanction him in an eliminator.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:No, you're not wrong. But that was because it was deemed there was no one good enough over a really lengthy spell to step through the ropes with him and they wanted to move things on.twenty six wrote: I might be wrong here, but wasn't he Witter's Promotor when he was given the British belt without even facing an opponent ?
It's an interesting debate.

Yeah, potty. Perhaps they should start an 'interim' title for just these occasions...joking, joking!stujones wrote:Yes, it is interesting. Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
After losing to Magee and Hall it would have been crazy to then order him back in with Witter who had originally taken him out in 3. Bet the board felt very stupid when he beat Gavin Down.
If nobody will fight Brook, then I suppose it's ok that he wants the belt outright and he is still very young. Thompson is the one I find strange, through him in with Vuma and light middle but avoid a title shot with Brook at his natural weight. I'm sure Watson would be up for it if he was to beat O Donnell

Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Of course they did, thats why they wouldn't sanction Bosworth vs Witter 2. However, they shouldn't have approved Bosworth vs Down - if they didn't think Bosworth was worthy - worst was, did not only Bosworth beat Down... but then he beat the fighter that was generally regarded as the #3/#4 in the UK at the time (not sure if Magee had moved up)... and still the board refused to sanction him.Lenny wrote:After losing to Magee and Hall it would have been crazy to then order him back in with Witter who had originally taken him out in 3. I'm not saying that you are not correct, of course it would have been a forgone conclusion... but it does beg the question why allow Down vs Bosworth to be an eliminator?
Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
i remember the bbbc refused scott harrison a volontry against esham pickering when he needed just 1 more defence to make it his own.he ended up going straight for the wbo and never got to keep the lounsdale belt!
Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Is this another riveting fight then, with a Brook win at 1/50 - the same odds as against Elwell?

Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Totally agree Stu, if they were fully expecting Down to win why not give him a straight shot at Witter. Although I think he would have been lucky to see the 4th round himself.stujones wrote:Of course they did, thats why they wouldn't sanction Bosworth vs Witter 2. Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Surely it would be more of a case of Bosworth, or Down had he won, "earning" the right to challenge Witter ?
Re: Mark Lloyd now ok to box Brook
Yes I agree, rules are rules - and you cannot just say "no" to someone who won an eliminator. Its an eliminator match for a reason. The winner is deemed to have earned his shot.THEBUTCH wrote:Surely it would be more of a case of Bosworth, or Down had he won, "earning" the right to challenge Witter ?
Just because Junior was a British champion who looked like he had the potential to be world class (again Kel Brook comparisons) it doesn't mean they can bend the rules... why bother with the Bosworth vs Down match up. Especially as Bosworth beat Steve Smith after - who I am sure the BBBoC would have accepted... had he not been messing around with spurious world titles.
