I KNOW THE WBO ARE SHIT, BUT. . .

Post by overhand_right »

If they sanction Amir Khan v MAB for their vacant world title, instead of the Juan Manuel Marquez v Juan Diaz fight then that is a pretty damning indictment of their belt.

MAB is a legend but neither he or Khan have beaten a ranked lightweight and Khan is not long off a 50 second knockout loss!

Marquez is The Man at lightweight, and Juan Diaz is a top class fighter coming off a win over Michael Katsidis.

Surely a no brainer, yes?

Looks like no worries. With Marquez-Diaz being for the WBO title. God knows WHY they want the WBO title, because they have the Golden Boy/Ring title. And don't need to fight for sanctioning body titles or pay sanctioning fees. Marquez already a 3 weight title, so I don't know why JMM says he's looking forward to being a 3 weight champ! WBO belt won't brign any extar credibility.

It's the non GBP fighters that need the WBO title, the WBA title, the IBF title, etc.

But it stops Khan from getting a short route to the belts. If he beats MAB we'll see how much confidence Warren has in him. Will Frank put Khan in with the JMM-Juan Diaz winner?

If Amir Khan VS MAB was for the WBO trinket it would go some way to spoiling what is an excellent contest of youth Vs Experience, no way should Amir be fighting for a 'World' title on the back of the Prescott and Fagan fights. I'm an Amir fan and I'll be backing him to beat MAB, looking forward to it

Good shout really, think he will fight Paulus Moses for the WBA title if he beats Marco

What a relief.

No cheap easy route for Amir.

Having said that, i do believe MAB has more than enough left to decap Amir.

I thought Moses was supposed to be a dangerous banger? If this is the case then surely they won't be sticking Khan in with him anytime soon.

Sorry if this has been covered, but Khan v MAB is for the mandatory shot at the winner of Diaz v JMM WBO belt.

The winner will vacate and face hatton/pac winner. Then Khan can face anyone he likes for the vacant title

I don't think Khan will want to fight JMM before the end of the year.

More chance of Biggins getting down to Lightweight than Khan v JMM this year. Unless JMM stands for Jack Mosley's Mum or James McFadden's Mullet?

Why fight for the belt - when you have a better one anyway - just so you can vacate the bloody thing?

What makes you think Manny Pac won't return to Lightweight to put his WBC belt against JM Marquez's trinket?

'Cos Edwin "I've only fought one bloke who could hit back" Valero & the eleventy-trillion year old Antonio Pitalua (I think that's his name) are going to fight for the vacant title soon-ish. Valero will then get injured/suspended again from fighting in the USA & they'll have to nominate that unbeaten Mexican kiddie (first name begins with a U, not as handy as he thinks he is) to fight Humberto Soto for the vacant interim interim title, whilst Valero recuperates.

So if/when Pac does come back down we can have three or four WBC champs, to go with the two WBA champs I'm sure we'll have by that time.

YAY!

Valero's a former WBA champ, hits very hard. Pitalua is old, but knocked out Jose Armando Santa Cruz. You seem a bit down on everyone, Datsue.

I think the U guy you mean is Urbano Antillon. He looks very handy. I think he's going to challenge WBC champ at super feather, the very tough Soto.

Sorry to seem so miserable. Having a bad day mate! Shall try to only post chipper & sprightly things from now on.

Yes I know Pitalua KO'd Santa Cruz. But David Diaz did that. Valero's gonna go through him like the proverbial hot knife (through butter, not through hashish, though when it goes through hash it's more entertaining). I am getting utterly sick of Valero, & Linares. Saul Alvarez (that red-headed Mexican teenager) is fighting tougher blokes than those two. The weights south of lightweight & north of superbantam are getting to be a bit of a wasteland, Chris John aside. Lots of good battlers without any stand-out talents.

Is Antillon really going to fight Soto? I do apologise, that should be a good fight to watch. Antillon is a good combination hitter -- nice left uppercut, switches well upstairs & downstairs, but for a guy with so much amateur experience he just seems so unfinished & raw; it might just be youth but I don't think he'll trouble the top top echelon (& for the record I consider Soto just below that). I actually had Fernando Trejo beating Antillon, & despite some impressive results I don't think he's improved all that much.

Anyway, back on-topic: to answer your original question from upthread, Manny is the "in-recess" WBC champ, I believe. & I am very very chuffed to hear that Marquez-Diaz is going to be for the vacant belt. I hope it gets on TV over here...

I don't know if Antillon will fight Soto. Antillon is almost up there in Soto's rankings (WBC super feather). It looks inevitable unless they're with the same promoter or unless one of them goes up in weight. I've seen a few Antillons and have been impressed by him. He is quite old now isn't he - 26 or so? - so they will need to move him quickly.

I wonder, is Soto going to be the next guy to have weight woes around 130-135. He does seem to be getting big at the weight.

Valero and Linares are good but they do faff about with those WBA titles and taking on easy foes in Japan. Hopefully Valero goes through Pitalua, gets some kind of exciting big fight. He could wind up fighting someone like Casamayor, Katsidis, Jesus Chavez, etc - then if he keeps winning his resume won't be so thin.
