Why do Promoters put on two bills on the same night

next saturday we have mick hennessey and allegedly competing against each other. same again on march 14th. surely both lose out on viewing figures. the tv companies should not agree. i know lots of people can sky plus the one they are not watching but if everyone had a choice they would prefer to watch all boxing live. this happened on dec 6 as well when you had froch pascal against the khan bill. Is this going to become more of a regular thing?

ive got to say im looking forward to the hennessey bills most next week. none of the warren card appeals to me next saturday to watch it live. will catch the repeat of the olympians.

on march 14th elcock v macklin should be a good fight as well. and you have tyson fury fighting on both shows.

really looking forward to the hayemaker bill on march 28th as well.

i know this is happening in the states soon as well with holt v bradley clashing with the golden boy lightweight bill.

this makes little sense to me when there are other saturdays available. sounds like promoters cutting off each others faces but its the fans who suffer. over here there is lots of boxing we dont get to see. then when there is boxing on : its on 2 different channels at the same time.

i kind of knew the answer to my own question but as a boxing fan it drives me nuts. lukely i have sky + and i can also use a video recorder in another room when there is a 3 way clash like next weekend. its just id prefer to watch them all live + it means staying away from the computer and tv sports channels as i dont want to know the results of the cards im not watching live.

Promoters try to sabotage each others shows, I guess.

don't know why. in this sort of economic hard times it would be smart for the promoters to leave out the rivalry and try and cash in instead of risking making money by putting on events at the same day as others.

sometimes ego takes over brains, which seems to be the case.

I might be getting this wrong, but isn't it the TV Companies that dictate the dates, not the Promotor ?
That's my experience anyway.
Doesn't change the fact that it's madness but maybe the revolver needs pointing at TV not the Promotor.

Very frustrating isn't it. I remember a couple of years ago there were two boxing 'classics' shows on TV once a week, one on 4, one on Five. Not only were they on the same night, not only at daft o'clock (4ish in the morning) but they clashed as well! Unforgivable.

Mental really because surely if they space it out and one show does well and entertains then the next week people would surely want to watch some boxing regardless of the promoter.

It might seem illogical but yes I do believe the TV Companies hold the lead here.
The next issue would then be venue - which certainly is the Promotor's issue.
