Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury is predicting another explosive performance in Norwich this Saturday night when he features live on ITV4 on the undercard of Jon Thaxton’s first European Lightweight title defence.
The unbeaten Fury will be going for his third straight win as a pro on the Hennessy Sports event when he takes on Daniel Peret in a scheduled 6 rounder. The Norwegian based Russian is a veteran of 35 fights but Fury isn’t impressed.
“I‘ve seen Peret fight and he’s a big Russian lump who’s in for a real hiding come Saturday night,” blasted the 20-year-old. “I hope he doesn’t think he’s coming over here for a nice weekend in Norwich because I can guarantee you he’ll be leaving with painful memories of the place.
“He’s a big, experienced guy and has a reputation for being very durable. You look at some of the guys that have struggled with him like John McDermott and Derek Chisora. They weren’t very impressive against him and he beat that Scott Belshaw who Frank Maloney was going around saying was the next George Foreman.
“Mind you, who takes any notice of Maloney, he was going around shouting ‘Bring on Tyson Fury’ for another one of his heavyweights, Larry Olubamiwo. He turned into Larry the Lamb when the fight was actually offered to Maloney though because apparently what he meant to shout was ‘Bring on Tyson Fury…in another 18 months.”
Another man keen to avoid Fury is Norwich’s own Sam Sexton. Fury had offered him the opportunity to be in the opposite corner at the Norfolk Showgrounds this weekend but the Prizefighter champ turned down the opportunity of a fight in his hometown.
“Sexton’s been moaning for years that he can’t get fights at home in Norwich and then when he was offered one he didn’t want to know about it. His matchmaker Dean Powell said he was interested but we heard that his trainer was ringing other trainers up asking them if I was as good as people said and then all of a sudden he developed a bad back.
“I’m disappointed that he didn’t step up to the plate. It could have been a great fight for Norwich but I suppose he’s happy enough dining out on being a three round Prizefighter champ for another few years. He should have left the three round fights behind in the amateurs.
“If he can get out of bed this week though he should come down to the press conference on Thursday and explain to the knowledgeable boxing fans and media in Norwich just why he ducked out of fighting me. The fights still there for him if he wants it. I plan on keeping busy this year so if he changes his mind then I’m happy to oblige.”
Having despatched his first two professional opponents with ease Fury says he’s looking for a another explosive performance against Peret in front of the ITV4 cameras this weekend.
“It’s been great having my fights shown on ITV4. Not everyone has the satellite subscription channels so it’s been great exposure for me to fight on ITV4. I think people are really starting to sit up and take notice because they know that when I say something, I’m willing to back it up.
“I’m a throwback fighter, I don’t want to fight 20 nobodies in a row before I fight someone with a pulse. I’m ready to fight any of the other so called top prospects out there right now. It’s not my fault that they’re not up for it so in the meantime I’m going to keep bowling over whoever’s put in front of me.”
European Lightweight champ and local hero Jon Thaxton tops the bill at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich on Saturday night (February 28th) with an exciting undercard featuring Fury V Peret while Danny McIntosh defends his English Light Heavyweight Title against Matthew Barney.
Also appearing are Matthew Thirlwall, Steve O’Meara, Lee Purdy, Earl Ling and making his pro debut, ABA Senior Featherweight Champion 2008 and awarded the best boxer of the night Royston’s Bradley Evans. Tickets for Fury - Peret which is part of an exciting undercard at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich this Saturday are available from the Ticketline box office on 0844 888 4402 or via www.ticketline.co.uk.

Trash talking is not the way forward for Tyson Fury, in my opinion. I think he should move forward as a big, friendly giant. He's a likeable guy. Someone should try to keep his Dad off TV.

Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
Well so far Tyson has backed up what he's said, obviously we don't know what financial deal was offered to Sexton, maybe he thought it wasn't worth the risk for the money offered.
Peret has the ability to make anyone look bad, if Tyson gets him out impressively then it will make a statement.

In fairness the Hennessy machine always churns out this tabloid stuff, i'd be suprised if Fury actually said any of this as all of their fighters must talk in the same vein otherwiseAsterix wrote:Trash talking is not the way forward for Tyson Fury, in my opinion. Yeah. I don't like reading things like this though:Coco wrote:In fairness the Hennessy machine always churns out this tabloid stuff, i'd be suprised if Fury actually said any of this as all of their fighters must talk in the same vein otherwiseAsterix wrote:Trash talking is not the way forward for Tyson Fury, in my opinion. Yea most Henessey fighters don't sound anything like their 'bad boy' press releases, don't think its a good marketing technique trying to create British Mouthy James Toney's that can't fight like James Toney. Plus good trash talk should have an elimate of humour not just pure cock
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
Whatever anyone thinks of Tyson Furys demeanour, it's difficult to fault his aggressive matchmaking so early on in his career.

Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
It's pretty obvious, even this early, that Fury doesn't have power relative to his size, pretty much like Valuev. Like Valuev, I think he could go far just based on how awkward he will be to fight, and that's a sad indictment of the heavy scene.
I was surprised by the tone of the press release, Fury doesn't really seem like the trash talking type and I agree with whoever said he shouldn't be sold as such.

Yeah the only Hennessy fighter who I believe actually talks like that is Carl Froch. By reading this thread guess I'm not the only one who thinks Tyson is a big friendly giant! He doesn't seem the sort for trash talk - can't imagine him coming out with trash talk like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwFW834MrccCoco wrote:In fairness the Hennessy machine always churns out this tabloid stuff, i'd be suprised if Fury actually said any of this as all of their fighters must talk in the same vein otherwiseAsterix wrote:Trash talking is not the way forward for Tyson Fury, in my opinion. I like the fact they are matching him tough early. Riddick thats a bit harsh - I think he'll be a bit better than Valuev and is nowhere near as robotic!
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
I like him, and if he wants Sexton, then good luck to him - he will probably need it though. Sexton is very decent.

As with all heavies it depends on what happens when he's cracked on the chin.

Should be some decent domestic heavyweight fights out there in the coming years. Chisora, Fury, Rogan, Price and Maloneys muscleman
Should be interesting.
If Fury camp want a big fight why not call out Audley, that guy is desperate to get another chance of some press

At some point, Tyson will have to ditch his dad and have a more professional attitude towards his training and media commitment. At the moment, his dad is on the tele as much as Tyson and at some stage Tyson will have to say "Look old man, it's time to wind your neck in......"Asterix wrote:Trash talking is not the way forward for Tyson Fury, in my opinion. As for Tyson, i enjoy watching him fight, very raw, has a lot to learn, but he has got something and it will be interesting to see how he develops, seeing as he is only 20 years of age. I won't predict how far Tyson can go, untill he has had three or four tough domestic fights, such as Rogan, Williams, Sprott etc etc
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
Is the Macintosh Barney fight gonna be shown on ITV4 ?
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
yeah itv 4 show is starting at 7.45pm on sat and runs for 3 hours. according to their tv guide they are showing macintosh v barney , the tyson fury fight and the thaxton fight. guess they could show a couple of other fights from the undercard depending on time.Finch wrote:Is the Macintosh Barney fight gonna be shown on ITV4 ?

Surely Fury Isn't ready for Sexton?
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
its a bit early alright. he has only had 2 pro fights. i think fury is on the elcock v macklin 14 march card as long as he comes through ok according to hennessey's website anyway.Max Molyneux wrote:Surely Fury Isn't ready for Sexton?

we had exactly the same kind of build up for Dave Howe and Scot Belshaw recently ...they both fell apart at the novice stage.
tyson fury prob will too....
i'll be impressed if he literally Knocks the durable blob Peret out..ie knocks him down and out....but a points win will prove hes not going very far.

Probably, Fury Is only a 2 fight novice and still a boy. FM press made a good point about HS press being too mouthy about him and rushing him.Riddick Blowe wrote:could sexton beat Fury's last opponent?Max Molyneux wrote:Surely Fury Isn't ready for Sexton?

I think Tyson Fury has been a breath of fresh air for British boxing. If he wants to take on the "War Machine" and Sexton, then good luck to him.
Re: Tyson looking to unleash Fury on Peret and Sexton
I agree. I admire Tysons willingness to be matched aggressively, too much emphasis is put on a fighter keeping his 0 IMO which is to the detriment of the sport. I'm not saying every fighter should be matched as aggressively as Tyson is, but they certainl;y shouldn't be criticised or held back if that's the way they want to go.scrap iron wrote:I think Tyson Fury has been a breath of fresh air for British boxing. Which promoter is Sexton signed to?
