UFC V BOXING?
UFC V BOXING?
o.k i prefer boxing but there are lessons to be learned from our UFC counterparts.like any business boxing needs to adapt/be flexible.
The success of prizefighter, shows how the public, react positively to a different format .Some of you may of attended fight nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC.These shows promoted by Cedric Kushner, offered loud music, dancing between rounds, podium dancers etc.Although not entirely to my taste the nights were packed, full of young men and women and exactly the same types of people who attend UFC.
UFC makes the top fighters fight each other, the public gets the fights it wants, great fighters are involved in great fights, its exciting and continues to grow, attracting a young audience, which is ultimately the life blood of any sport.
i know it will not replace boxing but not many of us would of never honestly predicted how quickly it grew in a short time.If it sustains and continues to progress as i think it will, boxing may be looking over its shoulder

Boxing serves up way too much rubbish and that's the ONLY reason could lose out to UFC.mahatma wrote:o.k i prefer boxing but there are lessons to be learned from our UFC counterparts.like any business boxing needs to adapt/be flexible.

If Boxing served up quality then people would watch BOTH!
Re: UFC V BOXING?
The UFC is essentially the equivelent of say the WBC but with more of a monopoly. The UFC's fighters are contracted to the UFC themselves, boxers are contracted to promoters.mahatma wrote:o.k i prefer boxing but there are lessons to be learned from our UFC counterparts.like any business boxing needs to adapt/be flexible.

Boxing would be much better if it was like as i mentioned above with the UFC. Unfortunately, money talks and boxers make more money this way, the UFC pay peanuts compared to what top top boxers get. This way the promoters protect their fighters from fighting the very best too early, if at all.
Us, the fans, therefore miss out on watching the best boxing fights because of this politcal bullshit.
I say sack the promoters off and get the boxers contracted to a merged WBC/WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO/Ring Magazine governing body. Much better fights, much better undercards, the world champion would be the worlds best and everyone would be happy bar the fighters who wouldn't earn as much.

Re: UFC V BOXING?
the UFC is more comparable with the WWE than the WBC.
it's a breakaway company that has established a brand name and taken off.
good luck to em.
but i'm just not a great fan of that style of fighting.
u can't beat stand up boxing.

Re: UFC V BOXING?
boxing will always rely on the talent coming thru.BIGMARK wrote:boxing really needs to learn from UFC if it wants to survive because all the kids these days are into it. Of course its a different sport in the same way Rugby and American football are the way bosses are marketing UFC with decent match ups and decent PPV events puts boxing to shame. i for one dont like it but just hope the money greedy fools that run boxing stop dismissing it as a threat and learn from it.
it can only learn in terms of putting on better shows and the promotion.
ya never gonna get a breakaway type company like this in boxing.
so it's a pointless argument really.
Re: UFC V BOXING?
For boxing to go that way you'd need one mega money promoter that has billions upon billions to spend. He'd then have to sign every major talent from every major division to his banner as well as some of the prospects.
Then he'd need to cut out the governing bodies altogether and set up his own organization and title to fight for. Then he makes the best of his talent fight each other. The UBC (Ultimate Boxing Championship) UBC 1, 2, 3 etc.
You'd need a guy who was ready to be the governing body AND the promoter like Dana White in the UFC and a enough money to throw at people to make sure the best out there come to him.

It would be great!
Sign up all the next boxers and best talent and make them fight eachother..
Re: UFC V BOXING?
The only way it could feasibly be done I suppose is if someone looked at it as a long term project and threw money at all the top amateurs that come through in the next 5 years. You let the current crop of top fighters expire and then when the next generation comes... well, you'd have the majority of them. You'd have to make it all come together with PPV/TV deals and market it like a big spectacle and you'd then have a 10 year window to make your mark. The key would probably be getting a major American TV network to get behind it and support it 100% to the extent of a sport like American Football would get support.
You'd also have to gamble a lot more on unknown contigents. Like, US promoters sign US fighters and UK promoters sign UK fighters but for this to work you'd need to do away with borders and sign Japanese, Nigerians, Germans, Ukranians etc. Not the most immediately marketable but you need the best under your banner and you never know where the best are going to come from.

Let me just go and talk to my broker, see if he can sort out a loan.............he said no. Oh well, anyone else fancy doing it?
Re: UFC V BOXING?
This subject has been done to the death. Fact is both way's of doing things has it's pro's and cons. With boxing it's actually possible for ALL the best guy's to fight each other, even if that doesn't always happen. Where as the UFC refuses to work with any other promotion, therefore a lot of the best fighters from outside the UFC never get to face the best fighters in the UFC. The UFC get's away with this, because they have a virtual monopoly on the sport and are so aggressive with their marketing. This works with the casual fan, but hardcore fans of mma know better. For example Fedor Emelianenko is far and away the best mma heavyweight in the world, yet he's not nearly as well known as Brock Lesner the UFC champ. It also means the UFC has most of the control over fighters and that's why their fighters don't make nearly as much money as top boxers, even though they do better numbers for the most part.
On the flipside to that the UFC's way of doing things means that the top fighters they do have (or any UFC fighter for that matter) can't take the easy road. You will see guy's with 10 or so fights taking on top class opponants. There is no record padding and no dodging, so the fans get the best fights available.
In an ideal world you'd have a UFC enviroment, but with all fighters in mma signed up to them with very nice owners who are willing to pay fighters what they deserve. In reality that's a pipe dream and everybody in both sports has to make the best of it.

Re: UFC V BOXING?
UFC just doesn't do it for me. It's all about the Marquess of Queensbury.
I honestly don't think UFC will ever overtake boxing. Boxing has so much history. Plus in boxing you tend to get more larger than life characters. Naseem Hamed, Roy Jones Jr etc.
Boxing is a tough sport but it's still quite civilized in a way. UFC is brutal. Knees to the mush and that sorta thing always make me shudder a bit.

Fedor is the stand out one but there aren't many at all.ArtOfWar wrote:This subject has been done to the death. Fact is both way's of doing things has it's pro's and cons. Loads have been brought in from Pride etc to make the big fights in the UFC.
Wanderlei Silva, Rampage, Henderson...
NRH, the way the UFC is going i do think it'll overtake boxing, it must be pretty close now. Like someone said, all the kids are getting in the cage, i know so many budding boxers/thai boxers who have made the transition.
Personally i think both are great, the only difference is that the UFC is entertaining EVERY time whereas boxing is now and again.

For the first time ever I watched the UFC card that was on Saturday night & actually quite enjoyed it.
Re: UFC V BOXING?
I wouldn't have said it was the best card of recent times either, so keep watching mate!

Nope.... was a decent show, and lots of KO's, but there's definately been better. The british lads, apart from Grove, all did well. Paul Kelly's fight was almost as good as his nicknamejBacca wrote:I wouldn't have said it was the best card of recent times either, so keep watching mate!

And that was a mediocre one ( still very good entertainment!) - there have been some barnburners!
UFC always good - boxing? Too many Pavlik Vs Rubios!
