Thriller in Manilla - movie
Thriller in Manilla - movie
I noticed that this movie is featuring at the Adelaide film festival.
Does anyone know much about it ?
I am tempted to go see it but it shows late at night on a week
night.
Apparently it tells the story from Frazier's perspective.

Re: Thriller in Manilla - movie
It's aired a couple of times on TV here, very interesting indeed, mostly from Frazier's viewpoint but it wasn't a hatchet job, Ferdie Pacheco embarasses himself with some idiotic statements. Have a look on play.com or amazon, you'll find it there, well worth owning.

- Ferdie long past embarrassment stage. Definitely been up for Cringeworthy Comments of the Year nearly every year he's been featured.Flump wrote:It's aired a couple of times on TV here, very interesting indeed, mostly from Frazier's viewpoint but it wasn't a hatchet job, Ferdie Pacheco embarasses himself with some idiotic statements. Blithering drivel just as much a part of history as great performances and factual truths.

Re: Thriller in Manilla - movie
Is this the same movie that HBO will be showing in April in the United States?
Re: Thriller in Manilla - movie
It's well worth watching. I summarised it to a friend as "Brilliant, lots of insight into how Frazier saw the whole Ali thing, and marred only by Pacheco's bias", so glad I'm not the only one who thought Pacheco idiotic and at times insulting statements were unnecessary.
There's a bit towards the end where Joe's brother confirms that Joe has no regard for Ali and never will have. He can't forgive the taunts, and the impact they had on his life and his family. His brother says "Ring Joe's cell phone...his answer message is (I'm doing this from memory here...J) Hi! I'm Joe Frazier, sharp as a razor.... Float like a Butterfly Sting like a bee, Look at him, look at me...I'm the one who got the job done"...
Marvis Farzier tells what it was like to be Joe's son during the "Uncle Tom" tirades. And frankly (IMO) if Ali were to portray Frazier as a Gorilla today I'm sure he'd be done for racial abuse!
Watch it...it's really good.

Yeah, no problem, as long as we can all hold hands and laugh at Ali's jokes about The Gorilla?harrygreb wrote:but at least you can see joe's reasoning...ok a little warped...but i can understand it as i'm sure you can too.

Of course. Explain to your girlfriend first though. After she caught you looking at those photos of bare knuckle brawlers she thought you were getting a bit funky didn't she?

Must check out a kronkpride video; he sounds like a dork in text.
Seen a few of Zelenoff; of course the best was him doing his newborn giraffe act in the ring with Andrew Hartley.
And I have seen BStrege throwing punches in his gay den. How bent is that clown?

Yes, I do...Pacheco was just rude and insulting..."You need to realise something, Joe Frazier is stupid" (or words to that effect) and "Hey! I thought the gorilla stuff was hilarious!"... what a jerk.Collins2000 wrote:john2345 wrote:It's well worth watching. If I was in Frazier's position - looking back at the way Ali set out to humiliate him and his family - I'd find it very hard to forgive. Good luck to him.

It aired on a channel called More4 in Britain about 2 months ago.
It was a superb piece of TV & you just end up loving the Fraziers after it.
I agree with the previous poster about Ferdie Pacheco - he came across as an arrogant knob jockey during the documentary!
