It will be interesting to see what men's weight classes AIBA rearranges to make way for the women and if IOC will turn it down again.
Re: IOC to vote on Women's Boxing in OCT for 2012
We will lose for sure some weights at senior division as well the number of the boxers will go down. IOC proceed by the same way when they introduced female divisions in weightlifting and wrestling......
I do not agree to be introduced women boxing in Olympics, sorry mel, my respect to all female fighters, i have a lot of friends among them and i see in their eyes the wish to fight at the Olympics, but imagine what will happends if we went down from 11 weight divisions to 8 in the way to introduce 3 weight divisions among women ? It will be very bad for amateur boxing at all.
Will be nice to see other opinions on this matter.

I agree that I do not want to see mens weight divisions lost to include the women. It does not make sense just to add like 3 weight classes for women. It should be all or nothing, though I don't think some of the women weight classes are ready for the Olympics. I would rather the IOC get rid of some of the really stupid sports like synchronize swimming or rhythmic gymnastics.ogii3 wrote:We will lose for sure some weights at senior division as well the number of the boxers will go down. You know, the funny part is that the synchronize swimming has bigger TV raiting then boxing. I was shocked when i heard that. During Athens Games i was doing TV boxing commentaries for Bulgarian Eurosport and guess what. Some of the scheduled live and delay boxing sessions were cut of the preliminary TV schedule, because of lack of audience and on there place was put the same synchronize swimming, who has bigger rating. Funny, but this is the reality. I couldn't believe it, but this is the fact...JMac wrote:I agree that I do not want to see mens weight divisions lost to include the women. Re: IOC to vote on Women's Boxing in OCT for 2012
We have to make amateur boxing more appealing to TV audiences and the current system isn't doing that at all. We also have to try to get more TV coverage for local shows/tournaments and especially for national tournaments. It is everyone's responsibility to work toward getting more fans. I try to help publicize shows and tournaments all the time. I think if more shows had large crowds like the Michigan Golden Gloves it would really help amateur boxing. I'm hoping Salt Lake City does a good job and gets butts in the seats for the NGG.

In regard to women's boxing, I hope it doesn't come at the expense of men's boxing. If they cut more men's weight classes, you could see both men's and women's boxing disappear from the Olympics in the future. That isn't progress.

Oh, don't you worry about that. Everyone in the Rocky Mountain franchise is pretty fired up about hosting the Gloves this year. And we have one of the best ring announcers in amateur boxing.

Did the larger TV rating have anything to do with women in swim suits?ogii3 wrote:You know, the funny part is that the synchronize swimming has bigger TV raiting then boxing. For sure it's better looking women in swimming swits then boxers with helmets in blue and red dresses all of them looking like Officers from Matrix :)
