Willie Limond - boooo

I've nothing against boxers doing all they can to make money and Limond decision to promote himself was a brave step.
But it's just seeing the resurrection of the WBU title and hearing some of the comments Limond has made regarding the belt and being WBU world champion leave me shaking my head.
Will this make Limond the only champ the WBU have?

That line sounded awful in the interview. NO, its not a world title, its blatantly worth less than his IBO Intercontinental belt.Riddick Blowe wrote:"At the end of the day, it's a world title"

To be fair, even an English or Scottish title would be worth more than that WBU shite.
Re: Willie Limond - boooo
it served hit man hatton alright for a fair few fights!
even hatton himself comments on to this day how proud he was to become a wold champ when he won the wbu.
im not a fan of it myself but if it keeps him active till the big fights come then good luck to him
ps : murrey v limond for the british would be a good 1

the WBU website calls minimumweight 'The Paperweight Division'
'Your views' section is blank.
Time to resurrect the old 'WBU for sale' thread I think.

How any boxer can go after the WBU belt rather than try to go after the British title is beyond me.
Willie - winning the WBU does NOT make you a world champion. It is a belt no-one wants to fight for and no fans recognise!

Don't you reckon allot of Hatton fans believed he was a world champ, goto be a reason he was more popular than Harrison/Calzaghe despite the football connection. I reckon the WBU can sell a fight a bit.doctorboxing wrote:Willie - winning the WBU does NOT make you a world champion. It is a belt no-one wants to fight for and no fans recognise!

I'll give them my book of Subway vouchers for it. All the footlong vouchers are missing, but I still think the WBU are getting a good deal.Riddick Blowe wrote:the WBU website calls minimumweight 'The Paperweight Division''Your views' section is blank.

Unless they accept my offer of subway vouchers. If they do, I'll turn it in to the most important world title about and hold title fights between my mates outdoors in my back garden. Caesars Palace ain't got shizzle on summery Nuneaton saturday night.

Re: Willie Limond - boooo
Shame on Willie Limond.
An african novice being imported with only 5 fights (2 knockout losses at super-feather) to gift Willie his very own 'world' title.
Why doesn't Willie just admit he has no self belief, can't compete at world level and go back to being a joiner? This interview is a pisstake & an insult to boxing fans. Could he really not challenge Thaxton for his european title?
Well, what do you expect for a fella who quit against Amir Khan. . . There i said it.

In Fairness he has been in numerous Papers in scotland saying that the belt is lightly regarded
however it does get you a step in right direction to get other oportunities
Not as bad as Say Lee Mccallister saying he was scotlands only 2 weight world champion
Then Drops Down for a British
The belt is poor but gets you a 12 rounder and some intrest from Fans who arent as much in the know.

Good point. When I were a wee lad, I used to think Hatton was the shiz for being WBU champion. It was only when he won the IBF belt from Tszyu did i Start to realise the WBU belt meant less than pittance.Gazmac81 wrote:Lenny wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7908830.stm

Re: Willie Limond - boooo
Willie could box this African novice in a 10 rd contest & i'm sure still attract the exact same amount of fans into the room.
The bottom line is its a cheap flimsy title for a lad who obviously doesn't fancy it up at British, European or world level.

Proved his bottle by Fighting arthur and Khan 2 Really good boxers who blasted out Most opponents on way up
These shows are designed to get Scottish boxers on more regular and get them in the shop window.
A couple of decent wins and someone will be looking to get you on a show against there Champion.
Title is crap yea but it seems to get him some puplicity and out there in the public eye

Robbed blind? He quit on his stool!!
Some robbery. Khan went down & came back to bash him up, Limond didn't want to continue.
Its as simple as Amir!

Ouch - this self Promotion game aint easy, is it ?
I'm sure all the other Promotors will be falling over themselves to sort out an opponent for poor old Willie.
Could it be a show stopper ?

So the African has failed a medical. You would of thought that someone in such an important world title fight would have got themselves in shape........
Who else will be deemed worthy of challenging for the mighty WBU title with only one days notice?

What i mean is its getting him some more Space in papers etc to show hes out thereLenny wrote:Not wishing to appear naive, but why is deluding the public okay?Title is crap yea but it seems to get him some puplicity and out there in the public eye
If he wins this then im sure Fwank will match him up with one of his Fighters.
Most Boxing knowledgeble people know that the title is nothing more than a Trinket
if it gains a bit of interest for his show then betetr for all the boxers concerned
Not as if hes trying to sell it to Tv .

Boxers have to start at the bottom when they turn pro, so why not become WBU World champion then step up to something meaningful like an area belt.
