Shout out to JMac

Post by donrock »

JMac,
I hear Jonathan Tenorio made it to the finals of the 165 lb division in the Naval Academy's Brigade Boxing Tournament! While he was on island this past Christmas, he spent some time working out and sparring at our gym. I gave him the nickname "Ten Bulls" cos i told him he was as strong as a bull..better yet, strong as ten bulls... I know he fights tomorrow, 10 AM Guam time... If you see this post in time, please give him our best... Let him know the entire island is proud of him, and Coach Joe Saloma, Coach Errol Alegre and all the boxers from the Dededo Boxing Club/Lights Out Gym are always in his corner!! Cant wait to see him again...

Mel / Dennis,
If you guys can get ahold of JMac, let him know about this post pls...

Got the message Don, I'll pass on your regards. Jake has come a long way since he first arrived last summer. He's going to be good and his match tonight will probably be the best one of the night. He is going against a senior who is pretty tough.
All the best.

I know that the Phillipine team won the competition against your club, but the question is did your guys learn something. Are they sticking with it and training harder? Do you have anymore competitions planned against other countries? I applaud you for being involved in boxing in an area that is less than half the size of the county in which I live. My county also has almost double the population of Guam. There is exactly one boxing club in Ottawa County (not our gym). Our gym is located in Kent County and currently there are 2 other gyms in the county. A few years ago there were 6-7 gyms in the county, but many of the small gyms appear and disappear within a few years. So it would be very difficult to keep kids motivated if we couldn't travel throughout the state. For you that is equivalent to traveling to other countries. Keep up the good work and good luck in the future.

Don,
Jake won! He pulled off an upset and won a split decision. I said it was going to be the best bout and it was.
Cheers,
Jim
