Jon Banks Spoiler
Jon Banks Spoiler
The guy who didn't take the Enzo Macca WBO fight...I'm sure you all remember him. He ended up taking what he admitted was the more meaningful fight, the better opportunity in Newark, NJ. Fought IBF and Ring mag champ Tomasz Adamek. Banks, the bigger man, started well, apparently jabbed well over the first half. Adamek worked him out, and came on when the Kronk puncher lost steam. Banks landed a big left hook in round 8, moved in to finish but got finished himself...Adamek responded by dropping Banks and stopping him on his feet.
Adamek has shown how it's done at cruiserweight. Couple of months after winning the title in a FOTY candidate v Cunningham, he takes on dangerous puncher in Banks and gets on Showtime. Wins the entertaining fights, gets decent exposure, remains active, gets lots of respect and even a money fight surfaces.
Other UK related international stuff - Glen Johnson beat Daniel Judah over 10 rds. A "revenge" fight as Judah held Johnson to a controversial draw in 2003. Obviously we all know Glencoffe. He's waiting out the Diaconu-Branco winner, as he is one of the top WBC contenders after giving Chad Dawson such a hard fight (Dawson vacated the WBC title, went for Tarver's IBF belt and more money). Obviusly Glen is ahard luck fighter - he pushes Dawson to the limit, and who gets the rematch - Tarver, who lost almost every round to Dawson. That's life, but it's great to see fighters lie "The Road Warrior" still going strong.

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Adamek seems to be the man, maybe Haye should go back to crusier to fight him! it seems more of a meaningful fight than he is going to get at Heavyweight anytime soon.

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Apparently Banks was stopped brutally on his feet. Ppl are comparing it to Mercer v Tommy Morrison. Eddie Cotton let him ge smashed up on his feet.
Anyway, to keep it British, ANOTHER potential Macca rival beaten up - following the defeat of touted WBO contender Alexander Alexeev.
If Haye wins a heavyweight belt, I think Adamek may go after him. Adamek is a warrior, he's on a great run so there is inevitable talk of big money fights now. I believe Adamek would get stopped by Haye at heavyweight. But he could stop a drained Haye if Haye came down to cruiser - IF it went past 5 rds.
I don't see it happening, mind. Adamek would want Haye if Haye won a heavyweight belt - but what gain is there for Haye? Haye might well want it, if he gets squashed at heavyweight. A move down to cruiser to take on the new Ring champ - but what gain would there be for Adamek (who'd want the fight at its biggest)?

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Thanks for that.
The right hand that Banks landed was massive. It was almost identical to the shot that Haye used to get Macca in trouble. Adamek just took a huge bomb from Banks and knocked him out.
Brilliant stuff, great TV, hope to see Adamek in with some of the other exciting cruiser contenders like Troy Ross, Wlodarczyk, Cunningham.

Said it before & I'll say it again -- Tomasz rocks. One of the fighters I'll always watch (that's not strictly true, I'll watch anything, but you know what I mean!).
Made up for him. Are there any US cruisers left that he hasn't splattered all over the canvas? BJ Flores perhaps?

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Yeah he's essential viewing. Wins the elim v Bell (former undisputed champ), beats the #1 guy for the title (Cunningham) in a war, the stops the most dangerous available contender in 1st defence. It's good that he can draw good crowds in America.Datsue wrote:Said it before & I'll say it again -- Tomasz rocks. Some of the so called legends out there have dismally boring careers by comparison.
I think BJ Flores declined his IBF title shot, so Cunningham vs Braithwaite IBF elim will decide whom Adamek fights. Contender winner Troy Ross - a former Hennessy Commonwealth champ from Canada - looks really good; Kryzstof Wlodarczyk might beat WBC champ Fragomeni...roll on all Polish unification. Hopkins wants to fight Adamek also but that could be an awkward fight.

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
is there a fighter in the world who has done more to increase his standing in his last 3 fights than Adamek has?
Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Banks was still really shaken up in the corner afterwards
Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Darchinyan IMO but Adamek is really on a roll now.Counter-puncher wrote:is there a fighter in the world who has done more to increase his standing in his last 3 fights than Adamek has?
Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
Seen as both are promoted by King, surely a Diaconu-Adamek fight wouldn't be too hard to make. Seen as Diaconu struggled with Chris Henry -who was outboxed by Yusaf Mack- you would make the Pole a firm favourite. Also a favourite against Wlodwarczk (however that's spelt).
As for Enzo...he's on the outside and unless Adamek comes looking for him then there's no way they will go looking for Adamek!

What the fornicate am I talking about, Diaconu's a light-heavyweight isn't he. Ignore me, sense mixupsteve689 wrote:Seen as both are promoted by King, surely a Diaconu-Adamek fight wouldn't be too hard to make. Cheers for posting the vid links lads, top notch stuff tho I think most people knew Banks was a bit over-rated and not a 12 round fighter.

A devastating short chopping right hander - the fight was as good as over when it landed, surprised the ref and corner let it go on..

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
I managed to watch the whole fight and Banks was terrible. He had no gas tank whatsoever and his tactics consisted of moving around the ring, lowering the pace to a standstill and looping his jackpot right hand. Adamek read his attacks all night long. The finish was brilliant - though Banks should have never been allowed to continue after the first knockdown.
Adamek's chin, stamina and punch power makes him the best cruiserweight in the world right now. Banks was nowehere near world class, I'm afraid. Enzo would have taken him to the cleaners. Even Vincenzo Rossitto nearly beat Banks.

Re: Jon Banks Spoiler
I think Banks is talented and powerful - he showed some of his potential but there's something missing.
Beating an American puncher on American TV is always good for business. Good first defence, the danger was there but Adamek took a couple of massive shots no problem.

I just don't see anything with Banks. He has horrible technique, zero stamina and not the best chin. He may have a little bit of a dig, but he can't set anything up. He moves, slaps out a jab and then loops his wild right hand. Repeat over and over until he gasses and starts to run.
Adamek's a baaaaaad man though. Really tough warrior.
