Is Degale the new Fraudly???
ok ok ok i know it was his first fight and iv taken that ito accout but after the big contract, the top billing of the amateurs, the gold medal and all the hype ive got to say i was more than a little disappointed at Degales performance last night.
what was the flicking, pitter patter jab all about? He has alot of work to do to adapt his style 4 the amateur poit scoring one to a professional fighter.
With a reported 2 million in the bank and the celebrity lifestyle he is startig to live I hope he doesnt end up like a certain other gold medal winning olympian!

To me, it looked like he was trying to tempt the guy to throw a punch. The opponent was a bad one because he was completely negative, whereas Gavin's opponent had a go and the guy that faced Saunders was just useless.
Don't forget that Audley destroyed his debut opponent. You have to give any of them 5-6 fights before you can draw any conclusions.

Once Audley.....always Audley :geek2:sg1985 wrote:bit soon to make that comparison, plus i still think audley is the new audley and the next one.

Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
Question is, is he afraid to fight, no he isnt. He still has a lot of amateur traits that need to be addressed in the gym and then we will see if he has big potential or not. Its silly to judge harshly after only seeing his debut fight. Opponents can make you look good or bad so lets see the more overall picture when he has had a few fights. By then we should be able to see if his trainer has knocked the amateur out of him.

There's a long way to go but yes, I think so.

I can see what you're getting at, but I'm confident that DeGale won't go the same way as the deluded one.gazza8 wrote:ok ok ok i know it was his first fight and iv taken that ito accout but after the big contract, the top billing of the amateurs, the gold medal and all the hype ive got to say i was more than a little disappointed at Degales performance last night.

Harrison's biggest (of many) flaw(s) is his fear of being punched & I don't believe that DeGale is made up that way.
Like you have said, he was a bit disappointing & it is early days, but I sincerely believe (or is that hope?) we don't have another Harrison on our hands, as I have personally had a stomach full of him!!!

Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
Fair comments, weve had a gold medalist with loads of gob that isnt even good enough for winning the British title. Weve had a silver medalist also with loads of gob who got KOd by a nobody in less than a minute. Now Degale is being compared with those two because of having won Olympic gold. Its as if they want to see him fail. The lad has loads of pressure on him to shine and win belts and prove Olympic champs can make the transition from the ams to the pro world. He has loads of work to do in the gym, but as you say he has the skills and fights with the right attitude so people need to give him a chance to prove himself. I thought he was from Jubilee Clock territory(Harlesden) rather than Shepherds Bush?trig wrote:being black & booed is where the comparison ends, degale has shown in the ams he'll get stuck in & has the belly for a fight.there arent many that have fought sutherland 6 times & never been stopped & in the olympics ds caught him flush a few times to my memory.
people are going on like degale is some sort of murderer???a young kid who's had success a happy go lucky outgoing type of character thats got a mini little circus on the go.
he's got himself a good deal, which we would all want if we met his achievments.the negativity towards the kid repulses me,people dont like how he talks?? he's a working class shepards bush boy its how they talk!!
he's gone from beijing hero to sports network zero??i know they booed him on the rosters so maybe its how its gonna go for him, just feel sorry for a young man to recieve such hate how will he cope with it???

They get credit where it's due, but some of the things both Khan and Degale have said can be viewed as cocky and arrogant, so it's understandable they will have haters.

just because you dont share his belief why hate??why not give him credit for trying!
I don't understand why Khan gets so much stick.
OK, he may not be quite as good as he thinks he is, but at least he is trying to prove himself the right way.

I hope Degale is NOT the new "Audrey" - but there are some niggling doubts starting to surface already.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
They're in a business where people constantly want to tear them down. If they don't have confidence, they'll get eaten by the sharks.jBacca wrote:They get credit where it's due, but some of the things both Khan and Degale have said can be viewed as cocky and arrogant, so it's understandable they will have haters.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
He had an opponent who didn't throw anything at him so he had free reign to do what he liked and he opted to pitter patter and pose instead of forcing the issue which got him deservedly booed. He probably could have gotten that guy out of there and all through it you could sense that he had another few gears in him to crank up but never bothered.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
Agree to an extent. Confidence doesn't necessarily have to mean they spout bullsh*t.rmz wrote:They're in a business where people constantly want to tear them down. Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
I just think he should keep his head down and keep on working hard. The crowd took the piss last night. It was his debut and he must have been very nervous, because he's only human. What he needed was the backing of the fans and he didn't get it. Sure he till showed to much of an amatuer style and his technique lacked a little bit, but you could still see he's got the ability to be a very good combination boxer with the right training. Booing like that will only make him bitter and drain his confidence. That was bulls**t.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
People need to give this guy a break, is that how we treat our Olympic gold medal winners in his first pro fight, fornicate me. Shambles of a crowd. I officially hate the british public.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
Confidence and arrogance are completely different and Degale displays the latter openly.
His post-fight interview was whiny as well, he seems to get upset by people criticising him and he actually looked gutted in that interview.
"Tell 'im Frank"
As for his future, too soon to tell yet, judge him in a dozen fights.

A lot of the boos were coming from the sizeable Irish contingent who had come over to support Rogan.TheCobra wrote:People need to give this guy a break, is that how we treat our Olympic gold medal winners in his first pro fight, eff me. Shambles of a crowd. I officially hate the british public.

I'm quite frankly sick of the Khan criticism. He is hardly ever in the media mouthing of like other Boxers do. (no names needs to be mentioned). It's only at press conferences or post-fight bouts he talks to the media.
I mean he has Barrera coming up, and he is keeping things below Par.
I mean a boxer says he wants to be champion, and he is slated for it? I mean WTF?

A lot of amateurish tendencies in there, will need to work hard to adapt. Worry about his toughness as a pro, give him a chance, but a b minus for his first foray at best.

Not surprising, the Irish fans who were there also booed the British national anthem when DeGale won gold. Outrageous.

He's a winner and he believes in himself. That's about the worst thing you can do if you're a British boxer. The performance may not have been great but by the sounds of it, the crowd had made their minds up to give him shit even before the first punch was thrown. he's being criticised for letting the guy go the distance, but if he'd bombed him out quickly he would have been criticised for fighting too easy an opponent.
Re: Is Degale the new Fraudly???
The booing only began after a couple of rounds of bugger-all from him. He was very well-received on entrance.

OK, fair enough. Admittedly I didn't see it. However it does sound like they're being harsh on him. Other boxers wouldn't get booed like that being tentative on their debut. The price of fame, I guess.Russ L wrote:The booing only began after a couple of rounds of bugger-all from him. He was very well-received on entrance.
