Nice work on a-c), guys. He also worked as a janitor, but his last job before the Olympics was head butcher on the kill floor of a slaughterhouse. (Some havespeculated that this was the inspiration for the slaughterhouse scenes in Rocky.) The injury he suffered in the '64 Olympic semi was actually a broken left thumb.

(d) and (e), anyone?

Joe also worked in a sheet metal factory and as an electrician as he said himself aboutt he slaughterhouse job..."There were times they would have me wheel sides of beef into the refrigerated lock up, where id practice my combinations, like you saw Sly Stallone do in Rocky. He got that off me, as he did my habit of running up the steps of the art museum"

yeah. he was first aware of difficulties with his eyes whilst at the olympics. it later turned out he had a cataract developing in his left eye. he was prescribed galsses but didnt want any sanctioning body to find out about it so just lived with keeping it a secret. He had surgery on it in 1975 but had to wear contacts in and out the ring due to it. During the second fight with Foreman George knocked one of his lenses out.

Hes developed on in his rigth eye now also

And in Joe's case, the blood pressure turned out to be linked to (undiagnosed for a long time) diabetes.

I know cataracts are caused by diabetes, eye injuries, chronic eyes diseases and the natural ageing process, smoking, etc. never knew blood pressure played a part. You live and learn!! i suppose this is an apt emoticon 8)

Well, thats what the optition told my gran - although she's no spring chicken he said it was primarly due to blood pressure.

This thread is a bit of a sore point - I have had to on-sell my tix to the Olympic finals to be best man at a wedding - my idiot mate (who is both the groom and supposed to be coming with me to Athens) had got his dates wrong.

Anyone fancy Beijing 2008? We can eat lots of Chinese food, except over there, they just call it food.

Ali Kazemi turned up in the ring having forgot to bring his golves!! the judges gave him five mins to find a pair. He couldnt, so home he went. Talk about fuckin up!!
