I notice a lot of people ringside stood up and applauded James at the final bell in response to the boos and although i am not sold on Degale i still want the kid to do well and not fall on his arse and will support him.

Haye v Enzo was just starting to get booed in the 2nd at the O2. Really not sure why some people go or what they expect is going to happen! Once the show is in an arena it seems inevitable there will be boos. Puts me off going.

I mean footballers get paid huge sums and the fans don't begrudge it them... or at least not so much that they boo them the minute they take to the pitch.

I can't comment on Birmingham show the small amount I saw was in a pub on silent and it was Saunders anyway.

I shall be in Manchester for Khan's fight...I expect Barrera will get a fantastic reception. But this thread has reminded me that there will probably a few hundred nuggets booing him.

The Billy Joe incident didn't happen in Beijing. People playing the political game brought it to light when the kid had been beaten and he was then sent home

I think fans are starting to begrudge them. It's a similar thing to Chelsea being booed off at half time if the score is 0-0 or England fans booing Frank Lampard.

Supporters are feeling ever distant from sportstars and it breeds content. Which is why Hatton had made such a living off his man of the people routine and an average footballer but jolly nice fella Jimmy Bullard is loved by most of the country.

Degale might have moved his personal stock forward a little had he not been quite so heavy handed with the self praise in the fight run-up.
The boos were in line with a very British tradition of "prove yourself before proclaiming yourself". It was a tough lesson for him and one I hope he thinks about, the bums on the seats pay the piper.....

Degale is poor, he should of blown that guy into orbit. He has won an olympic gold medal ffs, so you can understand the stick he is getting. The gap between amateur and pro is miles apart and my advice to anyone wanting to be a sucessful pro would be to get out of the amateurs ASAP. Where was his jab? where is his power? This is pro boxing not fencing. People will say it was only his 1st fight but so what. You could get a total novice in the that ring who say had 10 amateurs fights and they would of done better than that.

That's could well be the reason :TU:

The booing was down to the Irish/English rivalry. From what I saw it was merely the Irish fans who were booing Degale.

I was sitting with a huge contingent of Irish fans. There was a lot of rugby chants and banter between the English and Irish fans in the crowd. The Irish fans (who came to support Rogan) booed Degale because he was English and specifically because he won a gold medal for Great Britain and also because he beat an Irish fighter on his way to that gold medal.

Not very respectful when i paid money to go and watch this boxing :box:
Fans pay their money to go boxing - some them spend their rent/bill money to go boxing - if they do not like what they see - then they have a right to voice their opinion in whatever way they want.

I want James Degale to do well - it will be fantastic for boxing if he does - but just like Amir Khan I now cannot stand James Degale.

IMO he is a ****!!!

Just a note to say that this 'bigdaddy' is not related to the bigdaddy of Boxing Monthly and Setanta.
I just want to make that clear.

I'll leave you guys to argue about if a paying punter is entitled to boo or not, but I don't think Degale handled it too well to be honest - In fact he handled it very badly, which shows a distinct lack of mental toughness.

I'm not down on Degale, and I think he's getting a bit of a rough ride, but he needs to focus on his boxing, and let the rest roll over his head.

If he doesn't, then Eubank might be proven right.

I thought he got cheered in and booed out. I took that as people not being too impressed with the tapping on the head business from a kid in his first fight. Most people I've spoken to think he's an idiot, but that's because they're old and he speaks with that accent that most little kids have these days. I hope he does well, but the Naz impressions just look silly.

That seemed an odd choice to me .....x number of olympian novices punching out one-sided debuts or Thaxton's Euro title? I'd have switched on the latter.

unrelatedly:

who was the boxer that got slung out the Games for indecent behaviour and didn't one of them allegedly film it on a mobile fone?

From memory I think it was Saunders, and as the words "indecent behaviour" and french female reporter (along those lines) were involved, I assumed he had lobbed his c*ck out in front of her.

Can anybody on this forum shed definitive light on what allegedly (or more likely, actually took place, given he was sent home)?? Or will it just get swept under and forgotten about - as I'd like to know what sort of thing some people think is decent behaviour before I get excited about their boxing.

Also and sorry it's my neck of the woods and I don't know, does anyone know the latest on the the other Olympian Bradley Saunders' situation regarding the cocaine in the garden incident and consequent police involvement as I've heard nothing in ages.

It was Billy Joe Saunders. The woman was a cleaner and no his did not get out his kn*b. The video was him "teaching" the girl English, saying things like "do you know how to say c*ck?' and then he apparently said "do you know how to say put your cock up my arse".

He was as boring as watching paint dry. He may have beaten Sutherland in the ams but I can't imagine him beating him in the pros.

But is the Big Daddy of Boxing Monthly related to Big Daddy Shirley Crabtree?
