KHAN vs BARRERA - BOXREC OFFICAL POLL

Post by sweetscience »

Mods, i know there is a few threads running, but i think a poll will be useful after the fight.

then say if Khan wins we dont get the 'we all knew he was shot' line or if Barrera wins 'we knew Khan was a hype job'

As well as voting please state your prediction

im going for Khan by KO

Its one to think about but the closer it gets i cant see a guy of Barreras status getting beat of a relative novice .

i just think if barreras got anything left and throws the attacks in bunches like he does
then Khan seems to Panick when under attack so Barrera will get to him.

Just hope its a Great match with someone winning late on
so that no one can say Barrera was shot.

I chose Barrera KO ( probably late stoppage 10th )

I don't think the fight will go the distance. Well, unless Barrera is content with losing on points, which it doesn't sound like he is. I'm hoping Barrera's punch resistance is fine and we get a really good fight. Barrera KO for me but I'll be rooting for Khan.

I've been thinking that Khan wins this one, but I'm waivering now.....especially after seeing MAB interviewed, he looks focussed and in damned good nick!

Excellent fight, but not as good as Khan Vs Murray

Barrera KO 8

This is based on Barrerra still having it.

I'd actually love to see Barrerra clearly competetive, but get beat by a much more mature version of the Khan we've seen so far, but feel that more than likely Barrerra will get to him late on.

I call similar to you Gazmac.
I firstly hope it will be a quality event as I am going and let's be honest it's not cheap, specially when u factor in travel and accomm.
I HOPE, that an old Barrera doesn't get beaten up and embarrassed by a younger , bigger kid. (Ray Leonard was awesome but he got hammered by the guy on his comeback who couldn't have laced his boots at one time).
I am not anti Khan, in fact I'm a fan, I won't lose loads of sleep tbh whoever wins, BUT given Barrera has been there and got the tee-shirt, it would be nice, and good for British boxing if Khan pulls it off in a good fight.

worst case scenario and it's a blow out, which with all Barrera's nouse I can see him being more than enough to match Khan...but at least there should be a few other decent fights to make it all worthwhile.

I see a cagey start, Khan being more cautious this time. He makes the quicker start. Very soon though he realises (lol if he doesn't already) he is in a guy who has world class timing , knowledge , punch selection etc...As Barrera warms into it he starts to pick Khan off a couple times as Khan tries to get in and out. This makes Khan a bit more hesitant, at this point Barrera will start to take over and take the fight to Khan. Khan will sense Barrera is starting to get on top and the Englishman will show great heart to try and get the Mexican out of there. A terrific toe-to-toe battle will ensue that will last 2 or 3 rounds. Both fighters will have success, Khan will rock his opponent... UNTIL....around about round 8 or 9 Barrera's quality will show and a wicked shot puts Khan over. Khan tries to get up but is unable to come to his senses in time and the referee waves off the contest at the round 9 mark.

Five years ago this would have been a clinic, but based on the fact that Barrera is past his best, slower and has gone up the weights I'll go for Khan in the mid-rounds.

Sad to say that, Barrera is one of my favourites.

Hope Khan wins, don't think he will though.

It wasn't that long ago that MAB had Marquez on queer street in a bout that he was more than competitive in.

MAB's a fantastic finisher and all he needs is one wobbly moment to turn it on.

On the flipside, it's easy to forget just how good Khan is though, his resistance seems to overshadow his talent in these kinds of discussions.

MAB's not invincible, and Khan's chin isn't as bad as his defence (was). If he gets on his bike and manages to land significant counters, there's nothing to say MAB wont start to feel his age. Could even see it being a mismatch if Khan's super sharp and MAB doesn't get a chance to find his rhythm.

I'm not optimistic though, MAB's gone to the well time and time again, just when people started to think his run was coming to an end. I just dont think Khan can get through the fight without taking more than a few punches, which for me means a loss.

I remember seeing a video of Khan and Barrera greet each other on stage at the weigh in Hatton-Mayweather (I think it was). I sat there wondering if they'd end up fighting. Khan looked very big in comparison to Barrera.

Defo looks bigger and should be , however i think in alot of fights in the build up you think a Guy is going to be so much bigger then on the night there isnt that much between them

Most folk though Hatton would be bigger than Mayweather and Bully him about but Mayweather was solid and just as strong.

Only person in Briatain worth fighting is Murray , as thaxton has just been beat
Reckon khan would be too much for both of them anyway

If khan gets beat here however i dont see anywhere else for him to go other than try get the british or European

We all go on about Barrera having alot of wear and tear on him, but Khan has been in wars with Limond, Gomez . He's also been KO'd in a round by Prescott.

Unless Barrera is completly shot (which i don't think he is), then i can see a KO loss for Khan inside 4 rounds

Wrote loads of times what and why I think happens in this fight.

Khan - Stoppage - might even be early if he isn't too nervous.

I've gone for MAB by KO, beforehand I would have bet my house on it but FW does know the game and there is a good chance he knows something we don't.
I doubt Khan would have beaten Earl pre Katsidas, but FW obviously new Graham was gone

I think Barrera will stop him.

But also I don't think it's bullshit to say Barrera is shot if Kahn beats him because Barrera at 70% beats Kahn, its a fact IMO

I'll elaborate on why i think Khan loses, Barrera hits harder than Limond, Gomez and the others that hurt Khan with punches, Barrera has a excellent chin, only 2 KO losses on his record (yes the 1st Jones one was), Barrera has a good straight right hand punch, Khan was found this punch hard to dodge when moving in. And Barrera can box going backwards, then switch to attack, plus he throws combinations.

All to much for Khan

I'll go Khan to put in the performance of a career. His speed and heavy punch to shock Barrera and stop him in 8 rounds. TKO cuts maybe.

I just see Khan running all night and jabbing his way to a boring points win over this much older-slower Barrera .. :(

Still not convinced that Roach is the right type of trainer for a china chinned boxer like Khan...

I see Khan using his speed to get in and out quickly, and taking a comfortable decision - I'd hope that is the case anyway, or else this Roach partnership isn't working.

I went for a Kahn UD, Barrera didn't look like he had much left to me in his last two fights, and he didn't do all that much against Pacquiao either. I don't think Kahn has the power to knock him out, but I have to think allegedly matched Kahn with Barrera now for a reason, so I predict a UD with Kahn winning rounds with his flashy combinations and Barrera not really throwing too much back.

Barrera by KO no later than round 6. Khan has "Fast Hands!" and he is '"Huge At The Weight!" Maybe he is also "Strong!" (Although I doubt it).

Unfortunately for him, these popularly attributed traits mean absolutely nothing.
