Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
id say so definitely.
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
i think if he managed that he would have a strong case as the best british fighter ever as well.
Zoo, moselty, pac, marquez on the record ..........at present he only has one though that is a massive ask.

Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
Agreed. So the question that comes to my mind is how effective is Pacman at light welterweight? I really think it depends how the fight goes as to whether or not Hatton becomes the P4P #1 in my eyes. I think Manny will win, by late KO or close-ish decision.mike john wrote:the p4p argument falls down in cases like this. it reminds me of when roy jones beat ruiz at heavy. p4p he was clear number 1, but lennox was clearly number 1 at heavyweight

Disagree J.J wrote:id say so definitely.
Pacman and Marquez are not genuine 140 lb fighters, so I think it's being a little generous to put Hatton top based on that.
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
If Hatton moved through the weights upto Middle winning titles in each then he'd have a shout for the P4P#1, til then.....
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
So how come people make so much noise about that Hagler fella who stayed in the same weight class his whole career fighting his biggest fights against men moving up to fight him?Chambers2 wrote:If Hatton moved through the weights upto Middle winning titles in each then he'd have a shout for the P4P#1, til then.....
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
Fcuk knows, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Was Hagelr classed as P4P #1, were there other active fighters who'd gone through 3-5 different weight classes?banjo wrote:So how come people make so much noise about that Hagler fella who stayed in the same weight class his whole career fighting his biggest fights against men moving up to fight him?Chambers2 wrote:If Hatton moved through the weights upto Middle winning titles in each then he'd have a shout for the P4P#1, til then.....
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
There's alot of ifs in there, but even if that hypothetical situation happened JMM and Pacman would still have a case for the #1 spot IMOsg1985 wrote:Chambers2 wrote:If Hatton moved through the weights upto Middle winning titles in each then he'd have a shout for the P4P#1, til then.....
i disagree, the welterweight division is quite strong at the moment, if he beat pacquiao then jmm then mosley or cotto there would be no denying it him. he would be clear no1

Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
You don't have to go through numerous weight divisions to become p4p number 1.
You can do it in one division providing the quality is there.
If Hatton had stayed at Light Welter and beat Mayweather and Cotto there, no one could really argue his position as top dog for instance.

Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
I do not believe a Hatton victory would justify him occupying the p4p no.1 spot. If Ruiz had beaten Roy Jones he wouldn't have even cracked the top 10.
Of course, Hatton's achievements, thus far, eclipse those of Ruiz, but p4p no.1 would be far too great an accolade for Hatton. Hopkins and Calzaghe have been mentioned on here as examples of fighters who stayed at the same weight whilst ranked in the upper echelons of the p4p list, but, to my knowledge, neither have ever been the consensus no.1 (I've only been a boxing fan since 2003, so am willing to be corrected here regarding Hopkins). Hatton could indeed move up a place or two with a victory over Pacquiao, but I believe any victory for Hatton will be a result of the size difference and not overall skill. Had De La Hoya beaten Pacquiao, I for one would not have recognised him as the p4p no.1 and I don't believe Hatton should be either.
I know it has been said that Hatton cannot be effective at Welterweight due to the size difference, but look at the number of weight classes in which recent p4p no.1s have both fought and achieved notable victories in (Jones, Mayweather, Pacquiao). This, IMO, is what sets the "No.1" apart from the rest. Not necessarily JUST moving up in weight, but looking near unbeatable. I'm not saying Pacquiao has always looked unbeatable, but I think we all agree that his recent results warrant his current p4p no.1 status after the retirement of Mayweather. But to say Hatton is the best active fighter on the planet if he beats Pacquiao is too extreme IMO. A victory over Cotto or Mosley and I may be convinced, but for me, a notch or two up the rankings with a victory over Pac would be reward enough.

Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
That's fair enough, but beating Pacman doesn't put Hatton at the top of the P4P rankings. It doesn't even put him above Pacman IMO, just look at the 2 fighters best 5 winssg1985 wrote: i know, i was just saying i dont think he'd have to fight al the way to middle thats all

That doesn't make any sense if Hatton beats Pacquaio how can he not be ranked higher?Chambers2 wrote:That's fair enough, but beating Pacman doesn't put Hatton at the top of the P4P rankings. Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
dunno mate i give up p4p is a load of bollox anyway.
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
because Hatton is fighting at his premium weight, where as Pacman is virtually at his highest weight possible and has gone through about 5 divisions.world ranked wrote:That doesn't make any sense if Hatton beats Pacquaio how can he not be ranked higher?Chambers2 wrote:That's fair enough, but beating Pacman doesn't put Hatton at the top of the P4P rankings. I agree with J though, P4P is a load of bollocks and is subjective to the extreme

He beat him, weight doesn't matter, so Khan can't be ranked higher than Barrera if he wins or even when Mayweather beatworld ranked wrote:because Hatton is fighting at his premium weight, where as Pacman is virtually at his highest weight possible and has gone through about 5 divisions.Chambers2 wrote:That doesn't make any sense if Hatton beats Pacquaio how can he not be ranked higher?sg1985 wrote: i know, i was just saying i dont think he'd have to fight al the way to middle thats all

Hatton he shouldn't be ranked higher?
Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
Also if Pacman moved upto Middleweight and got beat by say Sturm for instance, would that put Sturm above Pacman in the P4P rankings? but he's not and some fighters can move up and be better, Mayweather started as 130.world ranked wrote:Also if Pacman moved upto Middleweight and got beat by say Sturm for instance, would that put Sturm above Pacman in the P4P rankings? If Khan beats MAB he'd go above him in the lightweight rankings, but not necessarily above him in the P4P rankings IMO, same in the Hatton Vs PBF.world ranked wrote:

Why should the likes of Pacman and Mayweather be punished in the P4P rankings for being adventurous and being willing to move through the ranks, but rewarded for stopping at their original weight taking on a lesser quality of opposition.
P4P is a load of bollocks so I can't believe I'm even in this thread

Re: Ricky Hatton lb4lb bullshit again
Cos weigth hopping encourages cherry picking and not clearing out divsions and fighting the best fighters at their best weights thats why.
Hatton moved up to fight PBF remember?
Now pac is moving down....your argument doesnt make sense mate.

Asterix,
yeah but do we know for sure pac can make lightwieght now perhaps light welter is his best weight now.................who knows outside the pac camp?
As for PBF he cant have been able to make 140 anymore otherwise why not fight at Lwelter, so hatton moved up to chase the fight, the very same thing he is being criticised here for not doing for fux sake.
