freddie roach interview : says khan will knock barrera out

Post by jspain »

also says khan needs to think about doing something else if he fails to beat barrera. interview taken from setanta website.

Trainer Freddie Roach insists that Amir Khan will knock Marco Antonio Barrera out when the pair clash next week.

Khan takes on the legendary Barrera at The Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday, March 14 and Roach is sure the Bolton fighter will do the business, saying he might as well consider a new career if he is unable to win this fight.

Many feel the lightweight clash is too much of a step up in class for Khan, whose fast defeat to Breidis Precott last year caused plenty to question his future prospects. Roach has since taken over as his trainer, leading him to victory over Oisin Fagan and he is confident that the upcoming bout will not be too much for his man.

“It could be, but I weighed up the plusses and minuses,” Roach told setanta.com.

“I thought about taking the fight when allegedly offered it to me and I accepted it finally after thinking about it because I think it is the perfect time to fight him.

“If Amir can’t beat Barrera then maybe he needs to think about doing something else.

“We’re going to knock Barrera out. Amir is a great athlete and he has come a long way.”

Roach also feels that 22-year-old Khan can benefit from working with his new assistant, former world light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Michael Moorer.

He added: “My new assistant Michael Moorer, the three-time world champion and a good south paw, he is very technical.

“He is like my third eye at the moment. He is helping me out with adjustments and he’s working out very well. It’s great to have an assistant of that calibre and I’m glad to have him.

“He unfortunately won’t be here for the Amir fight, but he and Amir are very close, they have worked very close together. We are trying to perfect Amir. He’s a very capable guy and I think he can do it.”

thoughts on this , roach is saying that if khan loses to barrera there is nowhere else really for him to go and roach is saying that barrera is past it in his opinion. im tipping khan to win because i think he is meeting barrera at the right time but i kind of hope that khan loses as then we might see him against thaxton or murray and attempt to get back that way.

your thoughts and opinions on roach's comments.

I don't think Roach sounds extremely confident in that video, which he usually does when talking about Pacman. This is a tough fight to call. Of course, afterwards, there's going to be a stream of people saying they knew the outcome.

I think Khan will knock Barrera out, and it will be easier than a lot of people think.

nope using ie7. dont suppose anyone knows of a shortcut for opening links on seperate pages using that. its just annoying having to open links on the same page and then click back to get back to where you were.

Unless Khan has improved so dramatically in the gym (and thus we haven't seen it) I just can't see further than a MAB win.

Surely Khan has shown nothing like enough to beat the likes of even an aging Barerra who must still be world class?

Ctrl+T opens a new tab, but not the link.
