Mate, your grandad is only recorded by Boxrec, as having a few fights in Newcastle. This may, or may not be accurate...he may have had more fights that have not been recorded. Even though there are a lot of old foggies on here, it would be difficult for blokes on here to remember a fighter around in that time.

If I were you, I would start your investigation by trying to get a copy of the Newcastle Morning Herald July 25, 1929; this newspaper might be on microfilm or microfishe at a NSW Museum. I think they have a few museums up there, there are more in Victoria though.

I note in your grandads boxing record at Boxrec, that a news article was written about him. So acquiring this news article might provide you with some more pathways....example: the news article might state your grandad's trainer or other info that you can then act on.

Good luck mate.

If he can't help there are some extremely well educated English gentlemen in here with more than a passing interest in Australasian boxing who may be able to assist.

i forgot about them. This is a good test to see if they really are all-knowing as they proclaim.

Sorry mate. I was not born until after World War II. My late father was a teenager when Eddie Moroney was around.

One more thing Brett; if you are told by some ole codga on here born after World War 11, that your grandad might have fought a Glenn Mattioli Phillips, just ignore him, he is just a confused old Sergeant Shultz, (he) 'knows nu-tting' !

Brisbane based editors Graham Dicker & Mike Attree are continuously updating records from that era.
