Yeah okay if you arguing from a boxing perspective then yes you can argue Haye is chasing the dream and as such it would fantastic if he were to capture the Heavyweight Championship Of The World.
However from the fans perspective in my view its all wrong - Haye in my view is forgetting his fans at a time he was just starting to build a fan base - but even that wasn't the heights others and in fact many others achieved earlier in their careers!!!

That would be quality. Cheap to get to and the arena us in a good area of Berlin - I make it the best city in EuorpeEmerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Guaranteed the O2 Arena in Berlin. They have a lot of boxing there.chrisfinch wrote:So if it was in Germany, where abouts would it likely to be?
And would it easily accessible for British fans? I'd be interested in going if it was in Germany but it could be really awkward to get to
Re: Haye v Klitschko rumours strengthening
I'm already planning going over to Germany as soon as this gets announced. I certainly don't see a problem with him traveling to Germany to fight for the heavyweight world title.

Fvck me I have never heard anyone bitching & moaning about a bloke willing to travel to a champion's home country before!
That's a new one on me.
Was Michael Jennings not thinking of the fans, Spud, by agreeing to fight Cotto at Madison Square Garden? Should he have demanded the fight be held in a leisure centre somewhere up north, for the fans?

Lennox built up a fan base before he f*cked off to the states - he filled arenas etc etc !!!Terence wrote:Wherever Wlad feels comfortable fighting Haye, that is where Haye should go. Let Wlad have it all his own way. Let him come out to one of those Fourth Reich ring walks. Let him burn energy protecting his chin in the early rounds. Haye will knock Wlad out. Then he will be the man at heavyweight, then he can fight here, and the fans can watch him fight as the heavyweight champion, possibly against VK (who will drop his belts, and mandatories, quicker than Bet Lynch's knickers in order to secure a fight), they may enjoy that.
Then Haye can bugger off to America and batter the living daylights out of their mob. People will moan that he is deserting us fans, but, as a fan, I will be happy to see him do all that.
It never did Lewis any harm.

Jennings was fighting in a one off fight and was unlikely to fight in world class again.
David Haye by the very virtue of being in boxing's flagship division and if he made champion he would be Britain's best fighter and thus want a big money fight at sometime in this country - to do that you have to build on your fan base - as already touched on Haye until 2 fights ago could not sell out a phone box - the Maccarinelli fight was promoted by Sportsnetwork and was backed up by some big ticket sellers and his last fight against Monte Barrett was one hard sell!!! - FACT - to the point they had to distirbute 2 for 1 tickets on certain price brackets - black curtain the top teir off and allow some people to move forward to higher priced seats!!!

Re: Haye v Klitschko rumours strengthening
Lets see how many David Haye fans travel over to Germany - my thoughts would be other than tickets Team Haye give away themselves - it will be as low as 100 - unless of course it is marketted really well - but the problem you have is that K2 know the fight will sell in Berlin and as such the tickets will be priced as such - thus pricing out a lot of Brit fans.Terence wrote:That was back in the day when we were starved of success in general, and heavyweight success in particular. Wlad-Haye would be great in Germany. Those who are desperate to go can nip over there, I would love another trip to Germany. This fight will build Haye even further, if people in the UK have been sleeping on him up to this point then it is their own tough luck! When he is world champ he will suddenly have fans all over the show, all of whom will be eager to get over to Vegas and gurn their way onto the TV screens.
You want Haye to jeopardise this fight so a bunch of Johnny come Lately fans can jump on the bandwagon, that is just daft. It will sell bigger numbers in Germany, and those who make the trip over there can actually visit a country with clean streets, a service industry worth its salt and nice people. Alternatively the fight could be staged in London, we could get hosed for the tickets, the transport system will grind to a halt and the TV networks could push the fight time back to accommodate the US.
I say leave it in the hands of the Germans, they can put on a show.
Re: Haye v Klitschko rumours strengthening
More like Spud is off the payroll if the fight isn't in the UK
Klit is the champ he should be able to fight in his hometown.
Next you will be championing Calzaghe for staying at home to build his fanbase!
One of the reasons Haye is so well thought of is because he is prepared to go into the lions den

Jaysus you have an axe to grind....Haye is not the Champion -what's he gonna say - "Oh no I won't take the fight, it's gotta be in the UK for my fans' and then receive a round fornicate off from the Klistchko camp.Spud wrote:Interesting - you are not the first to say what you have in the article.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:http://www.britishboxing.net/news_4366- ... rmany.html
Ah, who knows. But the info is quite strong...![]()

I will be dissapointed if it is in Germany - in fact I think it will be f*cking stupid - Haye is looking after his own needs - and whilst some will say he has a right to - Haye early in his career in my opinion did not work on his fan base which is why he couldn't sell out a phone box - I know for a fact - his last fight whilst it was great to see the people that came to the O2 - it was nonetheless a very hard sell!!!
Haye should do what Froch has done - build on his popularity and then f*ck off to another country - in my opinion Haye has absolutely no connection with the fans and in fact spends the majority of his time in North Cyprus where he is keen to please the local population - what about the fans in the UK??
I for one will be furious if Team Haye has agreed to a 3 fight option with K2 Promotions to fight the Klitschko's - I hope that is not the case and Haye bothers about his fans in the UK.
OK -
Number 1 - it's David risking his health and it's his (short) boxing career. HE need to take the deciions that make ense at the time (ie Payday and also the possibility of huge pure if he wins.)
Number 2 - I can't believe you're criticising Britain's most exciting and risk-taking fighter going abroad to win his second title in his opponent's back yard....how many fighters, let alone British fighter do this.
CAn I respectfully suggest you are a fvckwit and that David possibly fvcked your girlfriend?

Exactly, what a crock!
Haye has to move heaven and earth to make sure he gets this opportunity, whether that be the thin end of the purse, TV rights, location, or all three.
If this happens, wherever it happens, I'll be bloody glad, and glad to pay go see it if possible.

Haye has to do what Klitschko says, not the other way round. Klitschko is the boss not the fans unfortunately
and yes I'd travel to see it but I have other commitments at the moment so I'd have to watch it on telly![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Berlin or bust, that's what I say.
Would they not stage it at the Max Schmelling Halle though, I seem to remember that is the biggie for boxing in Berlin?

For the Haye fight we stayed in the world's cheapest hotel right under an underpass about two miles away from the arena in Levallois. T'was brilliant, the whores in the bar had some great stories & the porn was free & 24/7. We walked to & from the arena along one of the big dual carriageway affairs, guided by my missus' schoolgirl French & the occasional fight poster flapping in the breeze.
The crowd at the fight was a bit serious though. Where we were sitting some of the French dudes looked quite scary -- we made friends with the reporter from the local rag (can't remember the name of the paper!) & he was cheerily pointing at people going " 'E is a baad man. Look, 'im. Tres bad motherfvckairr..."
Top weekend that was.

There's Bar 103 on Kastianenallee in Mitte, which has rooms above it for from 80 euros, and they are well nice, that's where I will be staying.
There's also a big hostel, which name I forget right by Rozenthaler Plazt which is very cheap.

Yes, I was very glad to get out of the arena and back to Pigale, where my mate proceeded to get completely off his face, after scoring from one of the local street dealers, and ended the night being pelted with tins of canned good from passing moped riders and local residents from their bedroom windows. Very funny.Datsue wrote:I don't know about the Max Schmeling place, I've never been to Germany. One thing I did notice however, the French crowd were quite sporting, although the booed Haye on his way in, they cheered the result, which surprised me.
Re: Haye v Klitschko rumours strengthening
Berlin is one of the world's best cities, I lived there for four months in the summer of 2000, one of the happiest times of my life. Such genuinely nice, open and fun people.
As others have posted, to criticise Haye for going to Germany to fight either of the Klits is utterly moronic, he's the challenger, but of course, the great thing about him is that he'll go anywhere for a tear up.
I actually think he'll get beat by Wlad - the ramrod jab is probably too hard a weapon for him to get through, but I want to be wrong and I'll be there hoping to witness my error.
Only 100 fans? Seems like we've already got 10 per cent of that from this thread.....
