Sutherland's turned over quite late so he needs to push on and they could least have got someone who would give him 4/5 rounds because he needs that experience. Surprised Frank hasn't had him out earlier as he ill need to be moved pretty quickly.

Its only his 2nd fight?

The guy is experienced -at least the guy is a SM.

I dont agree with that. Its Darrens second fight and he will need about five fights like this in order to settle into the "pro style"

it'll get him used to the smaller gloves, the no vest or headguard, the atomosphere of the pro fight, the occasion yadda yadda yadda - I see nothing at all wrong with fighting five tomato cans when you first turn pro.

Honestly i did feel a lil embarrassed when they showed me my opponents record. Im already asking to fight ranked fighters but thats because im eager. But Both Brian (trainer) and my manager Frank says that they know there job in developing a fighter. That i have only had 1 rd of pro boxing. Thing is, i think im punching pretty hard at the min and i can only fight who is put in front of me.
If i keep blowing people away, then it will be only a matter of time before im stepped up.
Brian is working hard with me in the gym with sparring etc, and is putting the foundations in place so that when the time comes to step up in class, i will be ready.

This is only my second pro fight after all.

By the way i weighed in at 12st 2lbs this afternoon and feelling very strong!! Cant wait to fight tomorow night. Think im on live after James fight..

you know this already but its not your job to worry about who you are put in there to fight (at the moment anyway!) its your job to put them away.

Infact it might even be an idea to not even look at the record of your opponent and definately dont take him lightly.

Looks ok for a second pro fight to me.

He doesn't seem to get stopped early very often - he usually offers prospects 3 or 4 rounds of work, at least.

Added to that the excellent Gennady Golovkin faced this guy in his 2nd pro fight. If he is good enough for Golovkin then he is good enough for Darren IMO.

Sometimes I wish you could just fast-forward these hot prospects to 15-0 without having to watch their first 15 bouts. I honestly couldn't give a toss until they get to double figures and start being tested. These early fights do absolutely nothing for me.

Good luck anyway, Darren. It's the nature of the sport, I guess. Do the biz and rack up thses meaningless fights as quick as possible

As for what he can learn. Where the neutral corner is, for starters.

No point stepping up to quick there is loads of time for that... Fights will be easier then in the Am's for the first ten fights or so, i think even more, as a AM every opponent was high class either being in the Championships tournament or being against top Internationals... It wont hurt having a few easy and regular fights coz when you do step up, winning Title ect it will get harder and maybe only fighting 4-5 times a year...

Can I ask you a question Darren, how do you find life in the Professional game compared to the Amateur ranks.....

- Financially does it work out that much better?? Cause you used to get a grant from the government and wasn't you’re training paid for by the IABA. Is there any other benefits to being a pro opposed to being an amateur??

- Which Irish fighters in the current Irish amateur ranks will make good pro’s? JJ Nevin, Sutcliffe and the like….??

Cheers mate, and yeah I wouldn't worry about who's being put out in front of you at this stage, just get in there and do a professional job (I know u will!), you can only beat what’s put out in front of you.

People need to get a grip.
All prospects face a learning curve when stepping into the pro game, no matter how talented.
How anyone can slate a pro fighters SECOND opponent is beyond me!

As the Sutherland mentions himself above, Frank picks the fights and he does the job in the Ring.
Don't start slating the opposition so early...what next? Our batch of 2012 lads who turn over will be lambasted if they don't debut in a Title Fight!

I'm sure Darrens team will progress him when they feel the time is right, if he blows this guy away in a round tonight then they may have to think of raising the level of his opposition but if he struggles, then keep him at this level until he improves.
