David Reid

So I was just thinking about David Reid today after someone mentioned him in another thread. It's kind of sad how his career took a nasty turn after the Trinidad fight. His eye was the problem from the beginning. Not only did he have a saggy eye-lid, but I'm pretty sure he got a detached retina in the Trinidad fight. Does anyone know what he's up to now? Last time I heard he was up at NMU coaching kids. Here's an old article on him after he "retired."

I liked David Reid, he was easy to root for.

david reid showed how dumb boxers and corner men could be. I don't mean reid and his corner - i mean the other guys. inevitably the would go for the droopy eye which was dumb because it was going to close eventually anway. if they had gone for the good one he would have two closed eyes.

how good was he? how far would he have gone? i don't know. the eye problem made it hard to tell.

i never noticed anyone "going for the other eye". there usually wasn't any need for that as his head was stuck so far up in the air to accommodate the bad eye.

I read a few years ago that much of the decline of Reid was that he was simply so ectomorphic that it was detrimental while in the ring.

This guy would want into the ring at just 2% body fat. Therefore, as the fight progressed his body would actually start using his muscle as a source of fuel. This can't be good and lead to issues in the later rounds.
