Brilliant pressure. Lovely variety of shots. World class performance.

We haven't seen this kind of dominance at Euro level since Karmazin or Dzinziruk.

Moore is better than those crude US based contenders like Kirkland.

As of yesterday Moore was WBC #9. Piccirillo was 12. So Moore demolished the #12. He'll go up surely.

Hopefully there is a good EBU title defence out there. Otherwise I hope Mooresy lands an eliminator. How about current #9 Moore v current #10 Ryan Rhodes, for the EBU belt as well?

Great looking prospects Martin Murray & Darren Sutherland on undercard. Proper pro performances as well, none of this flapping that we saw on the Warren show last week! Haven't enjoyed Friday Fight Night this much in months.

Excellent work by Mooresy. I was expected in to be swatting air and getting mucked about by such a crafty veteran at least for the first half.

From the first lead left landed in the opening seconds i knew he could close the show impressively. The Italian may be old but he should have been able to be his old self for at least the first 4 rounds.

These are the WBC ratings above Jamie. Chavez, Duddy & Mayorga will only be interested in a much bigger payday for a likely loss so i'd pick Sergio Mora as his profile has dropped and he is last remembered for being spanked by Vernon and should be looking to rebuild. Summer Staples Center please.

1
Alfred Angulo (Mexico) LATINO
2
Ricardo Mayorga (Nicaragua)
3
John Duddy (Ireland)
4
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (Mexico)
5
Yuri Foreman (Belarussia) NABF
6
Sergio Mora (US)
7
Ronald Hearns (US)
8
James Kirkland (US)

Did anyone else get a flash of 'DISQ' panic come over them when Jamie hit Michele from behind when he was crouching in the corner?

No, he was not quite down, imo, in fact he had both gloves on the ropes so its fair game!

That is not a great list above, all beatable imo, although I know nothin gabiut the Mexican at number 1.

Foreman and Mora are horrible stylists. The two most ugly fighters in the game, to watch. In fact, I can't watch 'em. Never been able to sdit through a full, dreary fight of theirs. I hope they get nowhere near a world title.

No, because there'd have been a riot. If the fight had been in Italy I could have seen it but not here.

We will know alot more about Kirkland by tomorrow, he takes on big punching Joel Julio tonight in a 50/50 fight.
If Kirkland comes through then i see a title shot in the next few months. Julio is a bit more rounded and has a big punch, but can be outboxed.
I do rate Kirkland, especially early in a fight, he doesn't hold back on the power. and has carried it into the later rounds when needed.

I think he will build up a lead and have to hang on when Julio comes back in the later rounds, Kirkland by decision.

I'd love to see Chavez Jnr over here, think Jamie would stand a very good chance there. And it would give him great exposure on US TV

I feel that the WBC route is Jamie's best bet, if the WBC follow their own rules (not a given I know) then the EBU title should place Jamie somewhere in the top 5. The champ Forrest and the interim Martinez is going to purse bid very soon. And no.1 contender Angulo and no.2 Mayorga were already scheduled to fight an eliminator, I guess that will be rearranged some time soon. That leaves Moore with only 2 people left above him and well placed to take part in the next mandatory sometime near the end of 2009!

Oh and excellent performance by Moore to win the belt, I thought he'd have a much tougher time! Well done Jamie!

Great performance by Jamie. Well done. The fact that virtually every fighter in the area was present to show their support goes to show the respect he commands.

Now bring on Duddy after his next fight. :box:

You reckon WBC International champ Rya Rhodes would bea good fight to take?

Or would it just turn out to be one of those eliminators that lead to more and more eliminator fights?

I think Jamie needs to get some US exposure mate. Ryan is a winnable fight for me (sorry 26), but it won't endear him anymore to Sulaiman or the US TV networks. What would be cracking is to stick him on the Hatton undercard in May with a 10 rounder. The whole of Team Hatton were there last night, so who knows.

He's been in this position before a few years ago and now needs to build. Provided Duddy stays at 154. Maybe Chavez Jr. Hearns might be too tall. I've heard Mora might go back to 160 (he had to decimate his body to get to 154). Now is the perfect time for him to strike, because in 12-18 months time there'll be Kirkland, Angulo and Foreman breathing down his neck and they all look tasty. Especially the former two.

Forrest is beatable.

Yeah as much as I'd enjoy a Moore-Rhodes fight, the best thing for Jamie to do would be to forget about domestic level and push for fights with Americans to get himself in the best position to fight for a world title. How about Cornelius Bundrage? He's ranked quite highly(due to ko'ing Baysangurov), has name value and he's highly beatable. In fact I think Moore would do a "Piccirillo" on him.

Funnily enough I said that on the way home. Bundrage is mandatory for the IBF title now, isn't he? Be interesting to see what Williams does after the Winky fight.

I agree with all that. However, if Moore wants to make a EBU title defence, wouldn't it be good to do it vs a top 10 WBC fighter in Rhodes? That fight seems a very interesting one. But it won't be the quickest way to a world title, as you say.

I definitely agree about the US exposure. Moore has a style that the Yanks will like, and it would probably be quicker to get a title shot if he beats a top American based fighter ranked by the WBC. It will get American TV interested and the WBC which makes things easier.

You reckon Duddy or Chavez Jr would go for an elim with Moore, perhaps? Duddy's interesting as he's WBC top 3.

Duddy is allegedly fighting the night before Taylor v Froch, so they're on the same timeline, but I dunno whether his court issues have been sorted yet. Cold make matchmaking messy. Chavez would be a good shout. Jamie would win that comfortably.

As mentioned above, IBF would be a better bet for me. Some dangerous cats in the WBC list.

Not looked at the IBF list yet. Bundrage is one of those horrible stylists along with Yuri Foreman and Sergio Mora. Hard to look good vs any of them.

Thinking about it, Duddy's never going to risk a #3 ranking. Moore would surely completely outclass the guy.

I like the WBC route. Though it looks stacked, these guys are having to take tough fights and are being narrowed down. A few exciting dance partners (Angulo, Kirkland, Julio, Green) - they all seem to match well - and more name value with WBC champ Forrest (thouhg I think Martinez will take him down).
