Job done tonight. Early days, but it looks promising. I have one question though: Has anyone ever seen Darren and Paul McGrath in the same room?

One major difference Darren doesn’t drink (like he said in an interview there) Paul, god love him, couldn’t stop it.

Paul Mc Grath is a living legend, I have so much respect for the guy, its unreal. The job he did on Roberto Baggio in the 94 World Cup when he was world player of the year was unbelievable.

Darren if he keeps progressing to the potential that we believe he should could be up there with him some day, first thing first back to training, feet on the ground and hope to see him back out in April and if not happily see him back in Dublin in May.

Well, yes, I'm aware of that. Christ, if a boxer drank like McGrath he'd struggle to find the scales, let alone his opponent.

Once I found the picture of Sutherland, the hair did remind me of Pennant, actually. But I figured comparing him to one notorious pisshead was probably enough..... Especially as he's been on here to say he doesn't drink.

Impressive for 2nd fight, still bits to work on, would like to see a bit more speed in his combinations,. and head movement needs to be improved.
But all round very good prospect

The way he plants his feet and throws his punches (especially hooks and uppercuts) really reminds me of RJJ for some reason, anyone else see this or am I talking out my ass?

Looked good and was relaxed too!! Be interesting to see what he'd be like with a mover?? Good lateral movement is where I feel he might be vunerable???

For 2 fights though he's doing great!!

His jab was impressive from the start, as soon as the bell went he slammed one home.
His opponent was brave, and made Darren work off the back foot a bit, and Sutherland looked good when doing that.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Sutherland actually reminded me of a shot Roy Jones. The stiffer, more orthadox version who's tried to box a bit more in the last few years to save his legs.

That now actually sounds like a criticism. It wasn't meant to be. I think Sutherland's the goods. Definitely the best Olympian turning over in Britain. You can just tell he's watched a lot of Jones over the years, even though his physique doesn't allow him to do the same things as RJJ. Hey, in the long run that might not be a bad thing. RJ was never perfect with his fundamentals, whereas Sutherland looks pretty well-rounded technically already.

Sutherland is a textbook aggressive fighter. Really good to watch, already. It was good that they had an opponent who tried to back Sutherland up.

It was good to see him and Martin Murray on undercard bouts. The main event - Jamie Moore - certainly showed how to break a man down.

My respect for him increased x 10 when I saw him watching James Toney-Mike McCallum II (think it was that fight) on a laptop in the pre-fight clips, that is dedication. He looks so solid, and grounded also.

what colour shorts were they wearing? I recall Toney was wearing white shorts and McCallum back shorts in their first, classic bout.
