Frankly Speaking

Post by glittermonkey »

Sorry about the awful pun. Was anyone else left a little disappointed by the Warren interview last night? For me it gave little insight into the difficulties of promoting or into the futures of Warren's fighters. Instead of using the interview to explain why the big fights haven't happened for his fighters recently, what we got, IMO, were the excuses we've heard in the past.

There were good little points though, negotiations with Harrison going well and Enzo vs Nelson (bit confusing though, hasn't Jonny publicly said he's not going to fight Enzo?) before the end of the year.

I realise that sky had only a limited amount of time, but i can't help thinking that things would be a little clearer had the whole interview been broadcast.

As a little side note, did anyone else like Colin Jones performance? I thought he was calm, concise, thoughtful, and made some decent points.

Greatest respect to Colin Jones as a fighter. But I disagree with your assessment of his contributions last night. I didn't think he added very much.

What I would like to see on Ringside one week is, a panel of guests presumably hosted by Paul Dempsey but someone more experienced would be better, to include:

Pedro Fernandez/Mike Katz - Barry McGuigan - allegedly - Barry Hearn - Claude Abrams/John Rawling - Mike Lewis (BBC Boxing man).

Studio full of guests and a one hour Q/A session.

Now that would be far more illuminating.

They could take the Question Time model and put on a sporting tag at the end.

QUESTION TIME: Boxing under the microscope.

I knew it would be a load of crap, that's why I didn't bother watching it.

Just give me the fights and keep the rest of it.

"Now Joe will have to go back to defending his WBO super-middleweight title. There are only two fights for him at light-heavyweight, Roy Jones or Johnson, and they are fighting each other.

"In the meantime he's got to have a fight, I've got to give him a fight. So now I've got to find an attractive fight for him. It's a pain."

What a useless excuse for a businessman and a promoter imo.

He really said that? He really thinks that there are only two fighters at 175? Tiozzo? Erdei? Tarver? Even bloody Michaelczewski? OK, there might be problems, but worst comes to the worst he's got Clinton Woods sitting on the other end of the phone.

"I've got to find an attractive fight for him. It's a pain." = "It's not easy being a promoter when the opponents for your guy aren't unknown Eastern European, Scandinavians or American clubfighters who'll get in the ring for eight quid. PLEASE feel sorry for me."

The pity's just overflowing

I didn't see it, but it sounds like just what I expected, you're not going to get anything controversial happening on a ringside interview. It's not like Dempsey is fornicating paxman is it?

Exactly. It's so plastic I can barely bring myself to watch it.

The BBC blows Sky away in this particular area.

What Paul and Jeremy do in their own time is no concern of mine.

Such tolerance, and you're from Donny, remarkable. Bet you'd fornicate em over if they looked at your kebab on a friday night though.

If it was the kebab house near the White Bear - yep, there is a good chance.

Just a wild stab in the dark here (there's a few birds out there who know what I mean), but do you enjoy cockles and pickled gherkins? Only my mate from Donny goes ape for both, I thought it might be a REGIONAL (alex that one's for you) dish. Sort of Donny version of Haute cuisine.

Pickeld gerkins are an acquired taste, or Wallies as my wife calls them.

As for cockles, I thought it was you Pearly Seven Bells Cockneys that were into all that down at Margate?

But for reference, I dont mind the odd bit of gritty seafood.

Are you another Donny Lad John, blimey three Donny lads with access to computers, whatever next, a football team in the league?

My mate Tuss (as he is affectionately known, don't know if a 'tuss' is a common aphorism up round that neck of the woods, but I'm informed it means someone with hairless bollocks), gets two jars of cockles, eats the cockles and then drinks the vinegar. Truly shocking sight.
