Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Just read this from Mr Delusional ..
Khan, 22, said: "Naz is a good friend of mine, a fighter I looked up to, so to beat Barrera would be revenge for everyone - the British crowd, as well.
Who will be the crowds favourite? I`m thinking MAB

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Afraid to say I will be cheering on MAB in this one. Never liked Khan, not too sure why but don't. Find his father very annoying.
Khan is good as an ambassador for the Brit/Muslim community, a nice enough kid etc but for some reason, I have never taken to him and will be hoping MAB smashes him.

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
I'm thinking MAB will be the fans favourite, a lot of people have gone off Khan over the last year or so. But I'm hoping for a special performance from Khan

I want MAB to win i just think hes a brilliant boxer and the fact that he shut Naz up once and for all
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
ill be there cheering on mab but think khan will stop him on his feet round 8
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
At the M.E.N. Arena I'd imagine Khan will receive a lot more support than Barrera. For me personally, I'm supporting Khan. My support has nothing to do with Naseem Hamed and I don't want to see any "revenge" enacted against Barrera.

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
I think that if the whole first round knock out thing didnt happen then the majority of the public (myself included) would have been looking forward to MAB smashing can back into the amateurs.
Im a big MAB fan, but his best days are behind him; so although ive never really took to him, maybe im a sucker for the comeback or the underdog story but i am amazing myself and actually wanting Khan to win this.
On the night Khan will be the crowd favourite because the man in the street wont even know who Barrera is, plus the fact its being held in the uk
PS.. . . anyone know what time the khan fight is due to start?

COME ON AMIR!!!
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
what's his Dad got to do with it? or Tyson Fury's dad for that matter? How does that work not having anything against somebody then hoping they get smashed?tobyh5 wrote:Afraid to say I will be cheering on MAB in this one. Never liked Khan, not too sure why but don't. Find his father very annoying.

I like Khan he's always come across as a humble kid to me, genuine, like he's not trying just comes across as natural. I think bearing in mind his rapid rise and his big early success he's actually deliberately kept a lid on it, which is good. Unlike , say Audley big mouth.
But I'm kind of hoping Barrera gives him a great fight, even if that means beating Khan. I bet you though that if Khan starts getting beat round the ring I will sharp start rooting for the kid. I wanted Kevin Kelley to beat Hamed but when he went down the second time I was shouting at my radio for Hamed to win. Weird I know.
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Khan easily.. Would say 95 percent Khan... Not alot of the 'average joe' will know who MAB is...

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Barrera is a world boxing legend and has that tough style and had proved himself as a warrior. For serious boxing fans, he is special. Khan is not a bad sort, if a little thick, but some of his boasts have alienated some supporters. And his PAkistani gumshield and flag-waving supporters don't endear him to the average Briton.
But I think the main factor is the Khan hype- it has been so over the top = from McGuigan, to any TV station featuring him, to the papers. He has been sold as the second coming of Ray Robinson. I'm sick of hearing howfast his hands are etc....ANd real boxing fans don't appreciate the attempt to fool them.
I will be supporting BArerra. 1. Because I want to see Warren's face go green again. 2. the hype . 3. Barrera represents what a real boxer is rather than a mediacreation.

I`m thinking most people are now bored with tallentless media created celebrities and seriously over hyped sportspeople, probably Khan has recieved some flak because of this .. along with his constant Roland Rat sounding delusional boasts of course
Today I watched the Diaz v Marquez bruiser again
Those two are real old school boxers .. such a shame its only now at such an advanced age marquez is finally getting some sort of recognition .. and Baby Bull is only a couple years older than Khan ... kinda puts things into perspective
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
ON Barrera I agree with everything you say 100%E wrote:Barrera is a world boxing legend and has that tough style and had proved himself as a warrior. For serious boxing fans, he is special. On Khan's gumshield I say cut the kid some slack - let's face it, he might be British but he's a Pakistani, you don't have to go back far in that lads ancestry before it goes back to Pakistan. Everything about Khans image is British from the flags on his shorts, websites etc.... (well lol apart from no Brit title fight but that's another issue) - the tiniest fleck of homage to his REAL home country i.e. a flash of green on the gumshield, come on, you're being harsh there and you should cut him some slack.
On Warren - yeah, probably a smug fecker from what I've heard, but I haven't met the man myself. Likewise you don't hear many a good word about King over there, but plenty of people got a "screwed over story" by them. But on your point don't take too much glee over a smack in the face for Warren cos I really don't think he will lose much sleep mate, there's always a next one due along.
As for media - creation, yes I agree with you to a point but lets not over simplify it and make out Amir is without talent, as that would be stupid, and tbh, and I watch and follow a shit load of boxing, but as I've said, he's always come across as a humble lad to me, granted he reportedly came out with saying he was ready for whichever one of the world champs, I didn't personally hear the interview myself, everything I can 100% say I've heard with my own ears from the lad has been sound, and lets not pretend for a minute that half these quotes the journalist types set the question up e.g. do you think you're ready to face Juan Diaz now? or whatever?.. and a lot of it is straight after a fight when morale is normally high, you're bound to get a bit of big talk.
IMO opinion you want to turn the scorn on muppets that desrve it like Fraudley Harrison, who despite not being any good likes to get paid by saying he's going to be undisputed world champion after beating a Danny Williams who was on 3 weeks notice.

With the gumshield etc yes I agree, it is not my point of view and I think Khan is a likeable, if a bit delusional individual . However in this current climate, it is not appreciated by many Brits. THat is just my feeling - the question was about the crowd remember, who the crowd will support - not whether their feelings are justified.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:ON Barrera I agree with everything you say 100%E wrote:Barrera is a world boxing legend and has that tough style and had proved himself as a warrior. All depends on who outweighs each other between the Pakistanis, uneducated racists, people attending a boxing event for the first time and the chavs.
Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Is it not a fact that a large majority of "pakistanis" as you put it dont like our society and the western way of life? It is mostly people who move here from a different country who hagve the problem. Leys say if I moved to another country and moaned as much as some of our ethnic friends what would happen to me? Killed in the street i reckon. I will be rooting firmly for MAB, he is one of my favorite all time fighters.Hagler2002 wrote:All depends on who outweighs each other between the Pakistanis, uneducated racists, people attending a boxing event for the first time and the chavs.

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
Obviously Khan, people come out to watch Khan, a few of us hardcore fans may go for Barrera and/or support him but most are like the Hatton brigade
The lads stepping up big time too, this is comparable to Calzaghe-Eubanks and Hatton-Tyszu except MAB is smaller but imo he beat Marquez 2years and gave Pacman a close 1, 18months ago and they're the top2 LWs, you'd think a 22yo Brit fighting 1 of the best would get more of us behind him

Viva Barrera!
Needles to say, I'll be whacking my sombrero out and cheering the Mexican legend on. I always have a soft spot for the legends still fighting into their 30s and being cynically matched with young hypejobs.
Nothing against Khan, but I'd just love to see the 'not so Baby Faced Assassin' produce a Hamed Part 2.

I'll be there supporting Barrera,he's a true fighting man and a legend, and lets be honest Khan wouldn't even consider fighting Barrera except for the fact that his team think that he is well past it,whereas Marco would fight anyone at anytime throughout his whole career.

Re: Crowds favourite, Khan or Barrera?
I will support Barrera, not out of dislike for Khan, just more that I'm an admirer of the courage and dedication of the mexican legend.
I also supported him against Naz and picked up £20 from a lad at college who bet against a Barrera win.
But back on topic, Khan has always had a large British-ethnic following and his return to the ring against a high-profile opponent like Marco will spur them all into attending and cheering their man on obviously.
So therefore Khan will have the majority... but there will be a few thousand Barrera supporters too and I doubt he will feel like a visitor !
I really hope there is not a tinge of racial segregation to this event as that's not welcome in boxing.
I experienced that kind of atmosphere at the Khan vs Lawton fight in Nottingham and it was distressing to see an Asian couple with their young son & daughter stood nervously as lots of Stone Island clad, burberry wearing chavs chanted things i'd rather not repeat whilst throwing beer over each other.
It was probably that young family's first boxing event and it would be their last i'm sure.
Even the tannoy system repeated a message saying that "anyone singing racist remarks or swearing will be ejected".
