Campbells a Golden Boy now!

Post by DG. »

Former unified lightweight champion Nate Campbell is close to signing a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Campbell spoke exclusively to FightNews regarding this matter:

“It’s absolutely true Flattop. We’re close. VERY close. I have to do what’s best for my family and my legacy. People think I’m mad with Don, but I’m really not. It’s just in my best interests to move on. Nobody wants to work with Don anymore, and he can’t get me the kind of fights I need at this point in my career, and Golden Boy can. It’s that simple. Remember, I was already the #1 mandatory to Diaz when we signed with Don in the first place, so it isn’t like he moved me into that spot or anything. Terry made those moves, not Don. And since the Diaz fight, all Don has brought was the Guzman nightmare and the Funeka fight (both mandatories), who’s names would only be recognized by about 15 people in the US combined. It’s not my fault that nobody wants to work with Don, and I cant fight that battle for him. He’s got to deal with that on his own. I had to move on. And Golden Boy is really the perfect fit for me right now. They have the names I want to fight, like Marquez and Hatton, and they can get the TV dates, plus other promoters will work with them, and they really can get things done. My signing bonus will be more than I made the entire time I was with King, you feel me? Richard and Eric can get me the Marquez fight, meanwhile Don is talking about Devon Alexander, who ain’t never fought nobody. Come on brother. Be serious. It ain’t even a debate anymore. Look, this deal with Golden Boy will put me in the fights that can secure the future for my family, and establish my legacy. And honestly, that’s all I’ve ever wanted from this game. So hopefully Terry and Golden Boy can get this thing wrapped up quick, because I’m dying to get back in the gym.”

GB promotions will eventually turn out to be worse than a King/Arum lovechild

Hatton is already in cahoots with GBP's

Better to have them under the same banner and fighting competitive matchups on a regular basis than assigned to different promoters, hampering good fights by politics and refusal to work together. From what I've seen so far of GBP they make decent cards with good fights.

As long as they work woth other Promoters and do not hold up fights I am happy, but please no ore Hopkins Vs Winky type PPVs.

Golden Boy - Haywmaker - Sqiuare Ring etc, fighters getting the Lions share and no one can really argue with that.

On a smaller scale,

Jeff Lacy has also just started 'Left Hook' Promotions.

Makes it easier tomake fights and that good!

GBP is fast becoming the worst thing that has happened to boxing. The RING championship is being considered a world title (wtf), they're being paid excessive licence fees and slowly creating a monopoly so that anyone outside of them cannot get a TV date or their fight authorised.

New fans cannot watch boxing because the only way they can afford to show the fights is sticking them on PPV, which duly tank.

2009 has looked rosier, but with Taylor v Froch, Cotto v Berto, Cotto v Cintron and Judah v Campbell all being refused by HBO lately for no logical reason, I wonder what the future holds.

Also, GBP have been disgraceful at bringing talent through; Juarez was dropped in at the deep end. As was Bautista. Hernandez wasn't managed properly. Jordan hasn't had a fight in ages. I just hope they don't screw up McEwan either (which I suspect they will considering they wanted to match him up with Angulo last year!!!).

All they care about is buying the best out there, instead of balancing it with managing what they have.

Also, I think DLH has pictures of the head of HBO getting bummed because they seem to get all the HBO dates - it can only be because of that!

Since Greenburg and Taffet took over it's been pretty much that.

I still sit on the fence about the benefit GBP are going to make with Punch Promotions and Haymaker. To me, they seem happy to promote when it's a big event in the States but care not when it's over here on a rainy day in Liverpool (no disrespect to Liverpool). We were promised world class sparring partners, but I haven't seen that.

I don't mean to be overly critical, but they didn't exactly help Henessey much when there was an affiliation between the two. Murray got two US fights (I think), O'Donnell got one (which I thought he was badly matchmade in) and Witter got nowt.

I just see it as Schaefer and DLHs "let's get rich off of other people's sweat" club.

Bring back Seth Abraham. 8)

Rant over.
