Choose A Life - Part II...
Re: Choose A Life - Part II...
Big George is always happy, always aware of his life and family.
Compassionate and with a quick wit. Even as a young man through
his menacing frown he was never savage or malicious in intent
or words.
Wealthy in mind, family and bank he will live on for many years
no doubt surrounded by his mini Georges laughing and hugging.
Ali for all of his prowse inside the ring was famous to so many
for so many different reasons. A champion not only of the prize
ring but of so many causes, even those he may not have believed
in. Failing health almost as soon as his belt fell from his waist, his
quality of life is no doubt guided by his religion. The routine of
prayer and islam saving him from perhaps a steeper slide into his
illness.
Big George for me.

"...Even as a young man through

Don't be so sure about that. Foreman would tell you otherwise, &, from what I've read, so would various Police reports from his youth in Houston's Fifth Ward...
I think he was legitimately bad news --- not just through his early life, but for much of (perhaps all) of his first career. At the very least, up until he lost the title.

G,I..have you seen the 60 Minutes (tv show) episode when they interviewed Foreman? Worth a watch. He's very candid about his youth and transgressions.

We have an Australian 60 Minutes. Where do you think I live? A pygmy hut in the middle of the outback!?tzyuforever wrote:G,I..have you seen the 60 Minutes (tv show) episode when they interviewed Foreman? Worth a watch. He's very candid about his youth and transgressions.
Regrettably, I have not. Is that the one where some woman asks him how serious he was about, "wanting to kill Kenny Norton" in the ring? Heard about that, but never saw it. Apparently, he spooked her good when she pressed him on it as potentially being typical boxer rhetoric.
Re: Choose A Life - Part II...
I still thing that Ali said nastier things and was more malicious in words.
As a youth Foreman was no doubt a troubled lad. But he was from a
much poorer family. He did not have the middle class priveleges that
the Clay's gave Ali.

True. Ali was crueller with words, but he wasn't as brooding or in-ring malicious as Foreman presented to be. It's true, also, that Foreman had the decidedly-more empoverished up-bringing, & members will have to keep that in mind when voting...Robinson wrote:I still thing that Ali said nastier things and was more malicious in words.

I believe it was the late Ed Bradley doing the interview, and it was a 30 minute segment, with the other segment being a visit to Ali's home in Michigan. I can't find it on youtube or anything like that, but it was a great piece if you ever come across it.
